In English language learning,vocabulary is the basic unit in the process of linguistic meaning construction.Thus it can be seen that vocabulary plays a vital role in language.However,many high school students have various vocabulary problems in English learning,such as lacking vocabulary,unable to understand English articles,memorizing vocabulary ineffectively and having low interest of students in memorizing words.The above problems directly affect students’ abilities of English.With the rapid change of network information technology and the rise of the Internet and smart phones,some English learning applications arise and become a new product in the educational field.Vocabulary software can provide a lot of information for students to learn vocabulary,improve the interest of vocabulary memory,and can be used anytime and anywhere.In this study,the mobile learning software is applied to English vocabulary learning,and the vocabulary learning resources provided by the software are used to improve the effect of students’ vocabulary memory and increase their motivation and confidence in memorizing words.This paper takes the application of Weici APP in vocabulary learning of high school students as an example to explore if mobile learning software can effect students’ word memory,cultivate vocabulary learning strategy and influence student’s motivation for word memory.In this study,two classes in the first grade of Shanxi Yuci No.1 High School were selected to conduct an application study on the following three questions: 1)What influence does mobile learning software have on the word memory effect of senior high school students? 2)How does mobile learning software influence student’s vocabulary learning strategies? 3)What influence does mobile learning software have on the improvement of student’s motivation in word memory?Before the experiment,the students’ situation of vocabulary memorizing and the use of vocabulary learning strategies were investigated through questionnaires,and the first vocabulary test was conducted as a pretest of the experiment.During the 40 days of the experiment,the experimental class learn vocabulary by using Weici APP and control class learn vocabulary by usual way.At the end of the experiment,a second vocabulary test was conducted in both classes as a post-test.Questionnaires were sent to the two classes again to understand the students’ vocabulary learning and the use of vocabulary learning strategies during the experiment.In addition,3 students from each class were randomly selected for interview,so as to further understand the feelings,difficulties,effects and suggestions of students’ vocabulary learning using mobile phones during winter vacation.One month after the end of the experiment,the students in both classes took a third vocabulary test as a delayed post-test of the experiment.The results of three vocabulary tests and the data of three questionnaires were analyzed to answer the research questions in turn.This experiment shows that high school students’ vocabulary learning effect is improved after they use mobile learning software to learn vocabulary independently.Compared with the control class,the students were more active in using vocabulary strategies,especially meta-cognitive strategies,and their motivation and confidence in vocabulary learning were improved.Combining the above research conclusion,you can see that modern technology will not only help students in vocabulary learning but also help updates and changes to the way the English vocabulary teaching and improve teachers’ professional ability development.
