A History Survey Of Early JiangXi Films 1898-1949

Recently,regional film research has gradually become one of the hot point of film history research.Jiangxi was one of the earliest provinces that opened ports and trade in the late Qing Dynasty,and became one of the key areas of political and military struggle in modern Chinese history.Compared with other parts of China,the time for movies to enter Jiangxi is not too late.However,since film was introduced to Jiangxi in 1898,the development has been relatively slow.It was not until 1930 that the first cinema specializing in film projection business appeared.This article attempts to restore a period of development of early Jiangxi film through the historical investigation and study of the early regional films in Jiangxi.This paper is divided into four parts: The first chapter mainly introduces the urban development of Jiangxi in modern times and how early movies were introduced into Jiangxi.In the study of regional film,film,as the subject of research,must be closely related to the local population,natural environment and cultural situation.Due to the different geographical locations and natural conditions between cities in Jiangxi,the methods of modernization are also different.Jiujiang and Nanchang were the first areas where movies entered,and they entered together with the missionary work of missionaries.Due to the rapid development of industry and mining industry in Pingxiang area,the introduction of movies is related to industry.Ganzhou is located in the southernmost part of Jiangxi Province,bordening on Guangdong Province,and movies are brought to Pingxiang by Guangdong merchants in frequent trade exchanges.The second chapter is an investigation of the early Jiangxi theater business activities.Like other parts of China,when movies first entered Jiangxi,there were no formal theaters for screening activities.With the increasing popularity of movies among the people and the introduction of sound films,commercial movie screenings have risen.Of professional films appeared in Jiangxi province.Taking the Nanchang as an example,this article examines the three-legged situation in the Nanchang film market at that time.The third chapter is mainly an investigation of the government management of early Jiangxi movies.The government’s management of the film industry presents different appearances in different historical contexts,and the intervention of various political forces also adds different ideological colors to the theater space.In the early period,Jiangxi region became the focus of political and military struggles.The government’s management of the film industry was not only reflected in the maintenance of movie viewing order,but also in the links of production,censorship and screening of films.The fourth chapter is an investigation of the early development of film education in Jiangxi province.The topic of "education to save the country" runs through the anti-imperialist struggle in modern China.At that time,the National Government carried out various military activities in Jiangxi out of the need of political rule,and regarded movies as a "tool" for enlightenment and a "weapon" for propaganda..The film education carried out by the Kuomintang in the Jiangxi region has also achieved some results,reflecting the educational function of the film.
