Khaled Hosseini’s works have written the turbulent history of Afghans for more than sixty years. The tragedies of separation of flesh and blood, ethnic conflicts, and female destiny under the background of war are heartbreaking. As a writer with humanitarian responsibility,Hosseini weaved stories of Afghan’s betrayal and redemption, loss and hope in the narrative time and space of his work, which affect the hearts of every reader. The crux is the question of what to do about the misery of his fellow Afghans. In the land full of suffering in Afghanistan, the Afghans described by Hosseini have the courage and faith to bear suffering. When they faced the suffering, their desire for happiness was so strong, and they used religious piety to seek their own salvation in the suffering fate. The flickering light of redemption in Hosseini’s novel reflects his belief in the Afghan people’s overcoming personal suffering with “love”.He leads readers to feel the noble spirit of sacrifice for the loved ones and the power of good. This article intends to start from the misery narration in Hosseini’s novels, and interpret the misery of Afghans and the salvation and transcendence of the misery described by the writer. The thesis starts from the writer’s unique sense of the misery under his immigration status, studies the emotional motivation and writing purpose of his novel creation, and analyzes the humanistic spirit contained in the misery narrative of his work to reveal the writer’s thinking and care for the destiny of mankind, and discusses the aesthetic value and social significance of the misery narration in the contemporary context. To be specific, the paper will be mainly elaborated from four levels: The first chapter puts Hosseini among immigrant writers to examine his misery writing. He has formed a sense of responsibility under the complex life experience and dual cultural identity, hoping to arouse readers’ understanding and sympathy for the Afghans by telling stories. The second chapter puts Hosseini’s misery narrative against the historical background of Afghanistan, specifically analyzes the historical and realistic sufferings experienced by the protagonists, and shows the grave disasters brought by the war of aggression and the internal contradictions of Afghanistan. The third chapter illustrates the narrative strategy of the author. He presents misery through the eyes of disadvantaged groups, including children and women, and through a first-person retrospective narrative. It not only resonates with the Afghan experience, but also adds authenticity to the narrative of misery. At the same time,he also organizes the complex history of the Afghan people interrupted by the war with the clever spatial narrative structure, and provides the possibility for the redemption of the misery. The fourth chapter explores Hosseini’s reflection on the destiny of the nation and the protagonists’ efforts to save themselves, interprets the cultural connotation reflected by his misery narration, and reflects the Afghan nation’s resilience and courage in the face of the misery. |
