Study On The Nostalgia Theme Of Khaled Hosseini’s Novels

Khaled Hosseini,as a famous contemporary Afghan-American writer,whose novels followed the nostalgic theme pattern in western traditional literature.Because of the long-term war and poverty in Afghanistan,Hosseini paid particular attention to the life and mental state of ordinary people in his country.In the process of writing,he was dedicated to exploring the specific ways for Afghan diaspora to solve the sick of nostalgia.This paper takes all three novels of Hosseini as research object,analyzes the nostalgia theme and people’s presume of“home” and “identity” in these novels.Apart from these,this paper also explores the way for the diaspora in the midst of globalization to dispel nostalgia.This paper is composed of three parts,introduction,main text and conclusion.In the part of introduction,the paper mainly introduces Hosseini’s life and creation,research status at home and abroad,and research ideas and topic significance of this paper.In the body part,the theories in time,space and culture are used to discuss the theme of nostalgia in Hosseini’s novels.In the first chapter,the factor of space transformation is seen as the important cause of the occurrence of nostalgia for Afghan diaspora,and then specific expression forms of these individuals’ pursuit for home are fully discussed.In the second chapter,different characters’ growth process and conflicts between father and son,mother and daughter are totally analyzed to the change process of home cognition.In the follow chapter,more attention is paid on culture level.The Afghan diaspora’s nostalgia in different culture collides,Hosseini’s efforts to reconstitute identity and look for the lost home,which is contained in the third chapter.These small individuals’ efforts for presuming home and identity raised people’s concern about the identity of diaspora.While recalling the past and seeking home,Hosseini is also thinking about the cause of home lost in modern society and depicting ordinary Afghans’ mental predicament.Hosseini’s thoughts about home and identity can be seen as a symbol of philosophy concern on human universal condition.The refugee problem is one of the inevitable consequences of globalization,and it is no longer a problem just for Afghanistan.There is no longer a piece of pure land in the world;the past human living situation has been unable to regenerate.Where do we go? With the way of writing,Hosseini probed the common emotion of mankind,which fully reflects the writer’s ultimate concern for human destiny.
