In classroom teaching,the lead-in link,as the initial part of the whole English class,has a pivotal position,although it only takes a few minutes in the entire teaching activity.The effective lead-in activity is able to attract students’ attention,activate the existing schema in the students’ minds,promote the connection between the new and the old knowledge and arose their learning motivation.Besides,it can also enable students to clarify learning objectives and tasks as well as help students focus on knowledge points,then improve the learning efficiency.In addition,successful lead-in activity can activate classroom atmosphere,relieve students’ tension,and enable students to take part in teaching activities,thereby improving teaching quality.However,in the actual teaching,there exist many problems in the design of the lead-in activities of the English classroom.It is difficult for teachers to achieve the desired effect in the lead-in activities.Therefore,the author makes the study of the lead-in activities of high-quality English teachers in senior high school and analyzes the characteristics,functions and the situations of classroom involvement of lead-in activities,which aims to help the English teachers in senior high school improve their teaching designs of the lead-in activities.The author selected 16 English teachers’ course videos randomly from the videos of the 11 th National Senior High School English High-quality Course in 2018 as the research objects.The research adopts the classroom observation and script analysis as the main research methods and compiles the Observation Table of Lead-in Activities of High-quality English Class in Senior High Schools to record the actual situation of high-quality English class teaching in senior high school.What’s more,the author takes duration of lead-in activities in high-quality English class in senior high school,ways of lead-in activities,characteristics of teachers’ discourse in lead-in activities,functions of lead-in activities and students’ participation as the main observation points.Meanwhile,based on Krashen’s Input Hypothesis,Constructive theory and Affective Filtering Hypothesis,the author explores the characteristics of lead-in activities of high-quality English class in senior high schools and analyzes their merits in order to provide suggestions on the design of lead-in activities for English teachers in senior high schools.The research questions in this paper are as follows:(1)What are the characteristics of lead-in activities in high-quality English class in senior high school?(2)What functions do the lead-in activities in high-quality English class in senior high school mainly give play to?(3)How is the situation of involvement of senior high school students in lead-in activities of high-quality English classes?The results of the study indicate that: The duration of lead-in activities in high-quality English class in senior high school is moderate,usually around 2-5 minutes;The ways of lead-in activities are original and interesting,and the teachers attach great importance to the use of flexible and diverse lead-in activities to stimulate students’ interest in learning;Teachers’ discourse characteristics are obvious in lead-in activities,which ensures the interactivity,fluency,accuracy and logicality of the language;Lead-in activities have various functions,which reflects that high-quality English teachers in senior high schools have a good grasp of the functions of lead-in activities;Students have a high degree of participation in lead-in activities.Based on the results of the study,this thesis puts forward the following suggestions for lead-in activities of normal English classes in senior high schools: the duration of lead-in activities should be scientific and reasonable;Teachers should make full use of multiple methods and select the targeted method of lead-in activities;Teacher should pay attention to strengthening their own faculty of teaching language;Teachers should give full play to the functions of lead-in activities;Teachers are supposed to mobilize students’ enthusiasm for classroom participation.
