| As an excellent statesman and thinker in modern China,Kang Youwei systematically discussed his thought of social change in his representative work Datong book in order to explore the way to save the country. Many ideas in the book are very advanced and detailed, with rich ideological connotation. It expresses the demand for equality and democracy and the desire for a better life. The formation of the thought of social change in the book of great harmony was inseparable from the influence of the cultural transmission and social formation of Chinese and Western thoughts at that time.During the reign of the Qing government, the invasion of Western powers resulted in the division of Chinese territory and the loss of people’s sovereignty. The national crisis and the increasing contradictions within the government make the social and economic development decline, and the people’s life is in dire straits. In order to change the fierce social contradictions and realize the freedom and equality of the people,Kang Youwei put forward the measures and means of social reform in the book of great harmony. In fact, the social reform is mainly carried out from the aspects of system reform, education reform, and improvement of social welfare. The reform is carried out from the perspective of social nature. The existing Qing government system is reformed, and the decadent system at the ruling and management levels of the Qing government is changed,so that the people can live a happy and equal life.Although there is blind optimism in the thought of social change in the book of great harmony, there is no idea of complete equality in the real society, which limits the real realization of the thought of social change in the book of great harmony. However,it is of great practical value to study the thought of social change in the book. The thought of social change in the book provides a theoretical support for Kang Youwei’s reform movement of 1898,and described the utopian socialism in China. |
