With his unique and innovative theoretical perspective on art,Richard Walheim occupies an important place in the field of art theory in the 20 th century.Compared with other art theorists and aestheticians of the same period,he devoted himself to the study of the relationship between art and mind,and his aesthetic philosophy was based on the interpretation of various mental states,abilities,manifestations and abilities.Principle,concrete art painting as example to research and analyze art activities,focusing on the “watch the painting” the process of research,put forward the “reproduction” “bystander” concept of “performance”,centering on the artist intentions,expanding the scope of recurring problems and the inherent pattern,set up a unique visual art theory system,It is of positive significance to the turn of analytical aesthetics research and the development of visual art theory.This paper is divided into five chapters to discuss Richard Walheim’s theory of visual art.The first chapter analyzes the background of his art theory from two perspectives: the gradual change of context and the innovation of art practice and theory at that time.The second chapter analyzes the construction framework of his art theory from three aspects: the cornerstone of "philosophy of mind","psychoanalysis model" and "painting";The basic connotation is analyzed from two angles: the definition of artwork and the division of artistic activities.It constructs its theoretical ontology frame by representation,expression and bystander.The third chapter and the fourth chapter is the author based on the principle of the theory of visual art,respectively from the art activities in the perspective of "material" and "perception" of the constituent elements of visual art and causes and status quo of the change of the mode of perception,and discusses the future development and interpretation,attempt to times of its theoretical construction,trigger a new vitality.Chapter five summarizes the significance of Walheim’s visual art theory from the perspective of its innovation and development.Walheim’s theoretical basis of visual art is complex,and his exposition of art is rich and developmental,so his theory has tension as well as certain rocking.
