Film And Visual Perception

Gestalt psychology is one of the main genres in modern Western psychology. It was established by German psychologist M. Wertheimer , W. Kohler and K. Kaffka in 1912.Gestalt psychology emphasizes on studying the integrity of the psychological object. The core idea of integrity is the whole structure of the whole organism is more important than the sum of combining its parts simply. That is, the whole property will determine the nature of its separate parts.Perception is the core content of Gestalt psychology. Gestalt psychology considers that in any form or structure, the concept of spatial order is the same as the enginery order distributed in human's cerebral physiological process. Visual cortex is an electrochemical field, where the images falling down on the retina of the stimulus are transmitted to the visual cortex by millions of receptors, then the attribution of this kind of stimulus has been simplified and re-organized, and the concept of perception is shaped by the stimulus. Perception notion is relating to psychological counterparts acting in the brain's physiology, also experienced as the stimulus'self nature in psychology. Therefore, visual perception indicates those psychological counterparts acting in the visual center of brains'physiology.If we apply the perception theory in Gestalt psychology to researching the film's performance, film images will present a large amount of PHI phenomenon resulting from the painting lattice appearing at intervals. The performance of film images can be divided into the performance of static painting lattice and the PHI phenomenon of painting lattices.As for the research on the performance of static painting lattice, it should make reference of the relationship between the sun, and the main body of paternity, the main background of the relations between viewers and painting, the main characters include the size, shape, color, sense of space and so on. Then it should research the painting lattices'performance, the performance of other prospects and its angles, integrating the movement shots into two categories and analyzing the shots'performance. Finally, a model should be established to prove that, the performance of a film is accomplished in the painting lattice's performance field by inducing a large number of painting lattices which possess their own performances.This article is to explain the aesthetic Gestalt psychology, expanding the elaborate objects from static visual arts to the dynamic visual arts.
