Among all the literary works introduced into China over the past decade,children’s literature draws much attention given its unique educational value.Literature helps our next generation learn about the world and foreign cultures in a more comprehensive way.However,the quality of those translated books is not always satisfactory.Sometimes the translated version does not show the same kind of aesthetic appeal as the source text does because the translator has neglected the stylistic features and failed to deliver them in the translation,even though the translator is totally capable of doing that.In fact,the charm of literature is derived from both the content and the form.This thesis discusses the reproduction of phonological features embedded in certain forms.The 2017 Newbery gold medal winner,The Girl Who Drank the Moon,is chosen as an example for analysis.Based on the properties of children’s literature and relevant theories,phonological features in this book are classified into features serving as sound symbolism,features forming rhythm,and phonetic features in direct speech.To assess the quality of the reproduction of style in their translations,the transmission of conceptual,linguistic,and pragmatic meaning is valued.It is believed that in many cases,the phonological style should be reproduced by flexibly adopting foreignization as a strategy to deliver the original readability in translations.
