A Study Of Chinese Modern "New Compilation Of Stories" Novels(1917-1949)

There is a common phenomenon in literary creation-"new compilation of stories".The same characters and themes are repeatedly written in different times.Literary texts are inseparable from tradition and literature,and their multi-level connections are sometimes shallow and sometimes obscure.Familiar stories appear in the new text in different appearances.The new text gains its value through creative ideas,narrative strategies and aesthetic attributes.Looking back on the development of Chinese literary history,the "new compilation of stories" novel is not the beginning of modern literature.The creation of novels with "old things" already exists in classical literature and continues into modern literature.During the period of modern literature,the writers represented by Lu Xun invariably devoted themselves to the creation of "new compilation of stories" novels and wrote many works with excellent literary quality.Therefore,this paper takes Lu Xun,Guo Moruo,Yu Dafu,Mao Dun,Shi Zhecun,Shen Congwen,Tan Zhengbi and other writers’ "new compilation of stories" novels as the research object,to explore where modern writers draw materials and how to make up new stories,and the artistic features and literary significance of the new text.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this paper consists of three chapters.Chapter one mainly introduces the background of the emergence of Chinese modern "new compilation of stories" novels from three aspects: literary tradition,realistic environment and The influence of extraterritorial novels.The tradition of writing continuations and imitative writing,writers’ old academic literacy and writers’ recognition of traditional culture are the potential factors for modern writers to create "new compilation of stories" novels.The imprisonment of social reality,the development of creative paths,the works of Lu Xun and other modern writers,and the influence of Japanese historical novels are the practical reasons for modern writers to choose "new compilation of stories" novels.Chapter two mainly analyzes the source of "story" and the way of "new compilation".Different sources of "story",such as ancient Chinese myths and legends,western myths,philosophers’ stories,historical stories,Buddhist stories,and classic novels,have different meanings for the new compilation.Three different methods of new compilation,including expanding,rewriting and imitative writing,have different writing paths and writing processes,thus forming different aesthetic characteristics and creative styles of the text.expanding can enrich and deepen the ideological connotation of the previous text greatly;rewriting intends to change the theme of the story,and stress the purpose of satire and criticism,which has strong practical significance;imitative writing focuses on the use of narrative techniques for specific texts.Chapter three discusses the artistic features and literary significance of Chinese modern "new compilation of stories" novels.The "new compilation of stories" novels has distinctive artistic characteristics due to the particularity of its materials and the novelty of new compilation,such as the traces of cross-genre writing,appealing to readers’ nostalgic and novel reading experience,and unique parody charm.The creation of the "new compilation of stories " novel has expanded the subject area of novel creation,promoted the innovation of novel art,and enriched modern novel theory.The breakthrough of the "new compilation" on the historical novel creation norms liberated the writer’s historical imagination,and realized the connection between the writer’s literary imagination and the ancient national memory.At the same time,the writing of the "new compilation of stories" novels is also conducive to writers’ exploring local resources and inheriting and promoting excellent traditional culture.The fruitful attempts by Lu Xun,Guo Moruo,Yu Dafu,Mao Dun,Shi Zuncun,Shen Congwen,Tan Zhengxuan and other modern writers in the field of "new compilation of stories" novel have broken the stereotypes of realistic theme creation,and have broken the mindset of historical novel creation.The new style of the novel has formed a genre with a certain scale and unique style,which enriches and constructs Chinese modern literature.
