| The Chinese Communist Party’s 19 th National Congress report emphasized the importance of incorporating the party’s education policy,taking out the fundamental task of building morality and cultivating people,constructing quality education,facilitating education fairness,and cultivating socialist builders and successors with all-round development of morality,intelligence,muscularity,and beauty.The practical activities of ideological and political English courses can help students seek common ground and reserve differences,enhance their discernment,and ultimately form a correct outlook on life and values.Since the concept of “the ideological and political education”(IPE)was put forward,it has attracted the attention of many scholars.The mass of research has been on ideological and political education(IPE)in colleges and vocational schools.However,the studies on the junior high school stage are not common.After reviewing the literature,the research on the application of the concepts of the ideological and political education(IPE)in English reading situation teaching in junior high schools is even rarer.Therefore,in the context of the new era,it is of great practical importance to integrate the ideological and political education(IPE)into the situational teaching of English reading in middle schools.Teachers use the situational approach to teaching,in which they intentionally convey or create vivid and specific scenes.Its main goal is to get learners’ emotions going.It requires teachers to give full play to their imaginations in teaching design,organically combine scenarios with the content of English textbooks,create and compile situational teaching content that is closely related to the theme,and endow the content of English textbooks with deeper and updated learning interest and educational implications.Based on constructivism theory,the theory of moral cognitive development and the cultural development theory in curriculum,this study integrates the ideological and political education(IPE)into the situational teaching of English reading in middle school,and mainly solves the following two problems.(1)Can the integration of the ideological and political education(IPE)into middle school English reading situational teaching improve the English reading performance of junior high school students?(2)Can the integration of the ideological and political education(IPE)into middle school English reading situational teaching affect the humanistic quality of junior high school students?In order to answer the above two research questions,two ordinary classes are selected in the second grade of the nine-year Ziyu school in Danfeng County,with a total of 96 students as the research object.There are 48 learners in class one and 48 students in class two among them.Class 1 was chosen at random as the experimental class,and class 2 was chosen at random as the control class.In the experimental class,the combination of situational teaching approach and ideological and political elements is used to teach English reading.However,the control class adopts the situational teaching approach to teach English reading,but it is not combined with ideological and political elements.A four-month educational experiment will be used to conduct the study.The experiment included a wide range of research methodologies,as well as the test method,questionnaire method,and interview method.Before the experiment,a pre-reading test is conducted on the students in the control class and the experimental class,which is ensured that the English reading levels of the two classes were similar.After the experiment,a post-reading test is conducted for the two classes.At the same time,the students in the experimental class and control class were given post-questionnaire tests and interviews,and SPSS 22.0software was used to carry out statistics and analysis on the data obtained before and after the experiment.The following is an analysis of the experimental results.First,the integration of the ideological and political education(IPE)into the situational teaching of English reading in middle schools can improve the English reading performance of junior high school students.The experimental class’ s average English reading score is greater than the control class’ s,and there is a substantial distinction and control classes’ English reading scores after employing the situational teaching approach.Second,the integration of the ideological and political education(IPE)into the situational teaching of English reading in middle schools can effectively improve the humanistic quality of junior high school students.Through questionnaires,interviews and teachers’ observations,the students in the experimental class have made great progress in thinking and behavior.This research proves that it is feasible to integrate the ideological and political education(IPE)into the situational teaching of English reading in middle schools.It has certain reference significance for promoting the development of ideological and political concepts and reading teaching in junior high school English courses. |
