| This article takes the creation of contemporary Chinese landscape painting as a starting point, and searches for relevant cases from the exhibitions I have attended, books I have read, and online materials, examining those parts of them that have commonalities with Japanese art, such as Ukiyo-e,and then discussing the reference value of Ukiyo-e art in the creation of contemporary Chinese landscape painting.Starting from the definition of Ukiyo-e,the article first explores the influence of Chinese art on the development of Japanese art,and the important inspiration of classical landscape painting,Ming and Qing dynasty prints, and the Mustard Seed Garden painting manuals for Ukiyo-e art,and discusses the basic relationship between Ukiyo-e and contemporary painting. The paper then examines the relationship between Ukiyo-e culture and world art by its influence on Western art,its interplay with Western painting since the Impressionists, and the connection between Japanese art represented by Ukiyo-e and modern contemporary Chinese painting, which encompasses multiple levels of figures, landscapes, and birds and flowers. The paper then examines the cultural background and methods of expression of Ukiyo-e,the necessity of which lies in the development of Chinese society, urbanization, the rise of the middle class, and the growth of the civic class, which put forward new requirements for landscape painting as an art form, and the fact that the Ukiyo-e once faced a similar situation, although the time interval between the two was relatively long. This paper then compares and examines the references to the artistic expression of Ukiyo-e in the works of some contemporary landscape painters from the Republican artists who stayed in Japan to some contemporary landscape paintings. The starting point of this paper is that the development of today’s society is diverse and rich, and contemporary landscape painting,as part of the larger category of contemporary painting,is deeply influenced by contemporary culture, with artists from different living environments and educational backgrounds focusing their perspectives on different segments of society. In the process of studying the creation of Chinese contemporary landscape painting, under the basic creative theory that brush and ink should follow the times: Chinese contemporary landscape painting should be more concerned with the problems of Chinese society today. The culture of the townspeople and the secular scenario in Ukiyo-e is one of the aspects that can be referred to and applied in the creation of contemporary landscape painting when expressing the culture of the citizens and the life of the towns today.A study of the application of ukiyo-e in contemporary landscape painting can help us to summarize the merits of ukiyo-e art and thus serve as an appropriate reference in the creation of subsequent landscape paintings. The author of this paper examines art exhibitions and documentary sources, and case works through the study of landscape painting. The focus is on the relationship between ukiyo-e and recent contemporary landscape painting and its application and reference value. The objects of the research examples are all derived from recent contemporary artworks, ensuring the timeliness of the study and the close integration with practice. The conclusion of the article is that in today’s society where the background of the times is constantly changing, some landscape painters, including those who stayed in Japan, have created some new painting styles by referring to the strengths of Ukiyo-e art in order to better express the connotation of their works and better reflect the life of the times in the process of creation. To a certain extent, this enriched the expression of landscape painting. This shows that it is necessary to continue to inherit the excellent achievements of previous artists and to absorb and learn from other art forms in the process of art creation and research. |
