The translation materials of this report are selected from Climate Economics(the first three chapters),introducing the history, research status and mainstream theories of climate economics. As a typical social science text,it has strong objectivity and rigor, and pursues conciseness in writing style. In the process of translation,a large number of inanimate subject sentences make the translation process difficult. In order to accurately convey the content of the original text, translators pay special attention to the translation of inanimate subject sentences in the text. This report combines theory with specific translation examples.Through ideational grammatical metaphor theory, translators classify sentences with inanimate subjects, analyze their structure, and judge whether they are metaphorical or not,and whether such grammatical metaphor causes difficulties in translation. If so,the translator will perform a de-metaphorizing operation to transform the sentence into a congruent mode.On this basis, the translator uses appropriate translation methods to further adjust the translation, making it adapt to the Chinese expression mode on the basis of accurately and completely conveying the original information,so as to solve the difficulties in the translation process of inanimate subject sentences. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the author information and content of the original text.Chapter Two describes the translation process, including the preparatory stage, the translation process, and the post-translation proofreading stage.Chapter Three introduces the theoretical framework of ideational grammatical metaphor theory and its application in translation, and finally introduces the research status of inanimate subject sentences and their translation.Chapter Four is a case study, focusing on the translation of sentences with various types of inanimate subjects. From the perspective of ideational grammatical metaphor,it puts forward a variety of translation strategies,so that the translated text can convey information correctly and be highly readable.Chapter Five summarizes the experience and shortcomings of translation practice.
