| This is a practice report on both Chinese-English and English-Chinese consecutive interpreting for foreign expert product inspection in Changchun Hongde Automotive Lighting Co.,LTD.on August 28th,2021.The total length of the meeting was about two hours, including a brief introduction to the Company and questions and answers on automotive lighting production processes.According to Daniel Gile’s Effort Models, the consecutive interpreting process can be divided into two phases:Phase 1=Listening and analysis+Note-taking+Short-term Memory+Coordination;Phase 2=Remembering+Note-reading+Production.In the process of consecutive interpreting of the meeting, due to the large number of terminologies of automotive lighting production as well as the noise and environmental interference of workshop production equipment, the author did not get a good command of vocabulary and interpreting skills and her attention was distracted, resulting in problems such as information loss and misinterpretation, information redundancy, logic confusion, which affected the efficiency and quality of the interpreting. After analyzing and reflecting on the process of the interpreting practice, the author summarizes three solutions to deal with the above problems:using supplementation and transformation to improve information accuracy, using omission to streamline sentence structures, and improving note-taking skills to make logic explicit. The author illustrates the specific application of these solutions by analyzing the author’s practice examples. The interpreting practice is the first time for the author to be a formal interpreter.Due to the lack of experience, some typical and common mistakes and problems have emerged during the task. The author summed up the experience and lessons and got a further understanding of interpreting work. This practice involves the usage and translation of the technical terms in automotive lighting production field,so the author hopes to provide some reference for other interpreting practitioners in automotive industry. |
