The Causes And Solutions Of Information Loss In Ci From The Perspective Of The Effort Model

Interpreting widely exists in international communications.As one type of interpreting,consecutive interpreting is often used in press conferences or business negotiations.It will greatly influence the effects of the communication whether the information in the source language is fully expressed in the Cl production.If not,which means that information loss happens,there perhaps will be serious consequences.Therefore,it is valuable to reduce or avoid information loss in reality.At present,though there are many studies on CI,few of them are about the information loss during Cl.Thus,it is of academic significance to do research on that.Besides,as an interpreting postgraduate student,the author has found that one of my major weaknesses is information loss.With the Effort Model in Daniel Gile's book Basic Concepts and Models for Interpreter and Translator Training as the theoretical framework,this paper analyzes the author's simulated CI of Government Report 2014 to figure out the main causes of information loss from different aspects,adopting the analysis method "stimulated recall”which is commonly used in psychological research.And the corresponding coping measures are put forward.Generally speaking,one major cause of information loss is attentional saturation which results in the processing failure of the information in one operation or even some operations.The other one is that certain operation itself is incapable of processing the information(even with sufficient attentional resources).Based on this idea,from the perspectives of listening and analysis,memory,notes,production and coordination,this paper carries out further analysis systematically.The findings are that external causes include lots of terms,less conjunctions and implicit logic relations between sentences in the Government Report,while internal causes are lack of term knowledge in the source language,poor note handwriting,insufficient storage and non-proficiency of note symbols,and unfavorable short-term memory capacity etc.Moreover,this paper also proposes the measures of reducing information loss.Through this study,the author hopes to offer some pragmatic strategies that could be adopted in CI.
