Listening,speaking,reading,writing and viewing are the five basic language skills in English.And “listening” and “speaking” are one of the fundamental forms in people’s communication activities.With the continuous implementation of the new English curriculum reform in middle schools,English teachers pay more attention to cultivating students’ language ability.However,the English teaching model under the examinationoriented background is not flexible enough,so the author combines the PAD model with English listening and speaking teaching to carry out action research lasted for two months.This study mainly answers the following two questions:(1)Compared with the previous listening and speaking class,what effect does the PAD model have on senior high school students’ English listening and speaking skills?(2)Compared with the previous listening and speaking teaching methods,how does the PAD model affect students’ interest and attitude in listening and speaking?The study conducted two rounds of action research.63 students from a senior high school participated in this study.Data were collected from the questionnaire of 63 participants,three tests,interviews of ten students,classroom observations and some teachers’ teaching journals.Before the action research,a survey about students’ problems in listening and speaking was made.Problems mainly focused on their listening and speaking abilities,interest and attitude.PAD model implemented into the listening and speaking classes in the first round showed that students listening and speaking interest and abilities improved a lot but some of them failed to participate in the group discussion due to the lack of confidence.So,in the second round of the research,the author made some adjustment to offer more scaffolding to encourage their involvement in the activities.Statistics showed that the students’ listening scores were higher than that in the past,and their listening and speaking interest,learning attitude and speaking abilities were improved after PAD model,which showed that the listening and speaking teaching in the PAD classroom model can enhance students’ learning initiative.All in all,it is clearly that PAD model has a certainly positive influence for the English listening and speaking teaching in senior high school from the research results.However,there are still some deficiencies due to the limitations of the number of participants and the limited experimental time.Therefore,the author also puts forward corresponding suggestions for the future research of PAD classroom teaching model,hoping to provide inspiration and ideas for the English teaching practice of front-line English teachers. |
