A Preliminary Study On Quan Deyu’s Parallel Prose Creation

As the leader of the literary alliance in the middle Tang Dynasty,Quan Deyu created a lot and was good at poetry and prose.However,for a long time,scholars regard him as the pioneer of the "Prose Renaissance",mainly focusing on his poetry and prose creation,and there is less research on his parallel prose.In fact,Quan Deyu’s parallel prose style has many types and unique forms,which reflects the development and new changes of parallel prose in the middle Tang Dynasty,which is worthy of further study.In the early period of the Mid Tang Dynasty,the trend of literary retro thought rose and the status of parallel prose declined for a time.While vigorously advocating prose creation,Quan Deyu,as the leader of the literary world,did not drift with the tide,but also affirmed the importance of the form of the article,innovated the parallel prose with beautiful style and red tape,and formed a new-style parallel prose with neat,classic and easy access.Therefore,this paper is divided into three chapters,just as the literary background and general situation of Quan Deyu’s parallel prose creation,the position of Quan Deyu in the innovation of parallel prose,and the stylistic characteristics of Quan Deyu’s parallel prose.The first chapter mainly states the parallel prose innovation and its general situation before Quan Deyu.Quan Deyu’s parallel prose innovation was carried out under the influence of the thought of managing the world and applying it to practical use in the middle Tang Dynasty.The form of Pian Wen and prose of the creation of articles in the middle Tang Dynasty was not formed overnight.In fact,it was the inheritance and development of the parallel prose innovation in the early and prosperous Tang Dynasty.The new change of parallel prose had sprouted in the early Tang Dynasty,reached a harmonious and inclusive state in the prosperous Tang Dynasty.And in the middle Tang Dynasty prose had gained an overwhelming advantage.However,it can be seen that there are considerable quantity parallel prose in Quan Deyu’s works through the collation and analysis of Quan Deyu’s parallel prose genre,quantity,basic form and representative works.Under this cultural background of prose renaissance,it is valuable for Quan to adhere to the creation of parallel prose and affirm the importance of literary and artistic forms.The second chapter mainly discusses Quan Deyu’s attitude and proposition in the innovation of parallel prose.In the middle of the Tang Dynasty,the trend of restoring the ancients to the classics surged up,the articles with single line and scattered sentences were highly praised by the people of the time,and the status of parallel prose declined for a while.As a literary leader,Quan Deyu was impartial.On the one hand,he had close contacts with the pioneers of the prose renaissance.On the other hand,he took the initiative to inherit the achievements of parallel prose innovation of Lu Zhi and other parallel writers,and maintained an unbiased attitude in parallel prose innovation.The third chapter mainly discusses the achievements and stylistic characteristics of Quan Deyu’s parallel prose.Parallel prose has the basic characteristics of antithesis,allusion,rhythm and ornamentation.In Tang Dynasty,people tried to reform the accumulated disadvantages of the cumbersome and floating parallel prose of the Six Dynasties,and incorporated scattered sentences into parallel language to weaken the characteristics of parallel prose.Quan changed the parallel prose on the basis of the people in the Tang Dynasty: on the premise of ensuring that the article has something to say,he paid attention to the formal characteristics of parallel prose,and finally formed the stylistic characteristics of common use,wide pair,less allusions,relaxation of sound and law,no rhetoric,and taking prose parallel with each other.
