In recent years,our country has attached great importance to the development of interdisciplinarity,and interdisciplinary education,as a part of it,has been practiced and explored in colleges and universities by setting up interdisciplinary education courses.However,in the compulsory education stage,the research and promotion of interdisciplinary education is relatively lacking.English is an important curriculum at primary school,and as a language has natural interdisciplinary properties.As an important carrier of the English curriculum,English textbooks are important materials for realizing interdisciplinary education.Both the Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard and the criteria for evaluating English textbooks have clear requirements for textbooks to be interdisciplinary.However,the interdisciplinary research on English textbooks at the elementary level is extremely insufficient in China at present.Therefore,it is important to research on the interdisciplinarity of elementary school English textbook for both students’ development and teachers’ guidance.This Thesis takes the primary English textbook,English(Oxford Shanghai Edition)as the research object,and analyze the interdisciplinary content with literature review and content analysis.The aspects of quantitative analysis include unit topics,text contents,and exercises on Workbook.And the analysis is conducted in five dimensions:interdisciplinary coverage,variety,balance,diversity,and interdisciplinary consistency of exercises on Workbook and unit contents.The same dimensions were also analyzed for each of the five grades of interdisciplinary content.Qualitative analysis was conducted using stratified sampling method,dividing the sample into five strata for grades 1-5,and then randomly selected for qualitative description.The findings shows that English(Oxford Shanghai Edition)has high interdisciplinary coverage,strong interdisciplinary variety and diversity.It infers that the textbook has an obvious interdisciplinary compiling concept.The textbook can provide students with a large amount of integrated knowledge.However,there are also shortcomings.The interdisciplinary balance of the textbook is poor,and there is no reasonable gradient among the subjects between the grades;the subjects need to be coordinated,and the exercises on Workbook should increase the interdisciplinary consistency with the text content.At the same time,some outdated content should be replaced.Teachers can also teach interdisciplinary content by improving their own interdisciplinary knowledge and forming a team of teachers from different disciplines to take advantage of the interdisciplinary content in the textbook and further improve on the deficiencies.
