A Study On Chinese Refusal Strategies Of Thai Chinese Learners Based On Refusal Language

Thailand is the country with the largest scale of Chinese language education in Southeast Asia,and the cultures of China and Thailand are similar.However,when the author communicates with Thai students studying in China and Thai friends around me,I find that whether they are Thai students studying in China or Chinese learners who have never been to China,They are more direct when chatting in Chinese,and cannot use Chinese polite expressions such as greetings,farewells,and rejections correctly.As an important part of daily communicative language,rejection language can directly affect whether the interpersonal communication can be carried out smoothly and whether the relationship between the two parties can be successfully developed.Inspired by this,the author browsed a large number of literatures on the research of rejection language,and found that there are not many scholars who have studied the Chinese rejection language corpus used by Thai Chinese learners.Therefore,the author studies the rules of using Chinese refusal strategies under the influence of factors such as Chinese proficiency,Chinese learning background,learning methods,social distance and social power by Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners.It is hoped that it can help Thai students studying in China and native Thai learners of Chinese to improve their ability to use Chinese rejection language in communication.In this paper,the author investigates and analyzes the Chinese refusal corpus used in the context of refusing invitations,requests,offering help and suggestions by Thai students study Chinese in China and and Thai native Chinese language learners.through the text completion test.The author found that the problems presented by Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners.in the corpus are as follows: 1.The types of rejection strategies used are relatively simple,mainly using direct rejection strategy,reasoning strategy,thanks and apology strategy;2.The use rate of direct rejection strategy is relatively high;3.When rejecting,different apologies will not be used according to the change of the communication object;4.Don’t pay attention to the use of salutations when rejecting.At the same time,the author also found that under the influence of factors such as Chinese proficiency,Chinese learning background,learning method,social distance and social power,the rules of Chinese refusal strategies used by Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners are as follows: 1.Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners rarely use only one rejection strategy for each rejection,but often use multiple rejection strategies at the same time;2.With the improvement of Chinese proficiency,the types of rejection strategies used by Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners have increased,and the number of indirect rejection strategies has also been increasing;3.The rejection language used by Thai students study Chinese in China is slightly more complicated than that of Thai native Chinese language learners,and the pragmatic ability of rejection language is stronger;4.Compared with self-learners,school learners have longer refusal words and more complex refusal strategies.It is only the learning style that has a weaker influence on Chinese rejection strategies than Chinese proficiency,social power and social distance;5.The closer the social distance,the higher the utilization rate of the reasoning strategy,the delay strategy and the negotiation strategy,and the more inclined to choose the indirect rejection strategy.The higher the social power,the lower the use rate of direct rejection strategy,suggestion strategy,affirmation and rejection strategy,negotiation strategy and criticism education strategy.The higher the social power,the higher the use rate of apology strategy and avoidance strategy,and the more inclined to choose indirect rejection strategy;6.The social work background has little influence on the Chinese language refusal strategy used by Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners.Finally,according to the problems and rules of rejection strategies used in the Chinese rejection language corpus used by Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners.The author puts forward several reference suggestions from the perspectives of Chinese learners and Chinese teachers.Both Thai students study Chinese in China and Thai native Chinese language learners should actively increase the opportunities to communicate in Chinese,Learn to change different rejection thinking according to the improvement of Chinese proficiency,actively change the communication situation,improve their Chinese pragmatic competence.Chinese teachers should consciously and systematically practice communication in the teaching process,enrich and transform communication objects.When the teaching content involves Chinese culture,they should pay attention to explaining the relevant culture.
