| Giovanni Arrighi(1937-2009)is Italian economist and Marxist of the world system,who made original contributions to the theory of the world system.He has traveled throughout Europe,Africa,and North America,and participated in the African National Liberation Movement and the Italian working-class struggle.These learning and working experiences prompted him to absorb different theoretical "nutrients" and practical experience in his thinking.His works are numerous and run through his academic career,including Chaos and Governance of the Modern World System(1999),and Adam Smith in Beijing : Lineages of the Twenty-First Century(2009),etc.His theoretical ideas have enriched and expanded the world system theory created by Wallerstein.First of all,this article combs the development process of Arrighi’s theory of the world capitalism system from the two aspects of social background and ideological origin,that is,combing the social background of Arrighi’s theory will help to accurately understand his theoretical starting point and academic pursuit;and exploring Arrighi’s theory of deological origin,it helps to fully grasp his theoretical content and research characteristics.Secondly,This article analyzes the theoretical content of Arrighi’s world capitalist system from three aspects: economic expansion,power expansion,and end of expansion of the world capitalist system,so as to explore the theoretical connotation and its dialectical relationship,and explore the essence of the expansion of the world capitalist system;This article analyzes its theory from multiple perspectives in terms of time and space structure,thus reflecting the integrity of Arrighi’s theory;this article restores the process of hegemony transfer in the world system from the changes in power conflicts between countries and explores the social basis of world hegemony.Moreover,the hegemony of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom is reflected in the dominance of Asia to a certain extent,so it is very necessary for this article to analyze the dominance of Asia by the West.Finally,this paper makes a systematic evaluation of Arrighi’s theory of world capitalist system,including its theoretical contribution and limitations,and discusses Arrighi’s analysis of the world capitalist system and the prediction of the development trend of the future system,which will contribute to the reconstruction of the international order and the solution of international problems;the analysis of hegemonic theory will contribute to the rise of the third world countries;and the elaboration of the development impetus and characteristics of China’s road will contribute to the formulation of China’s domestic and foreign policies.The grasp of opportunities and challenges also has enlightening value. |
