In order to protect the rights of special groups and promote the development of human rights of all mankind, the United Nations established the newest human rights protection mechanism---the universal periodic review in 2006.Since its establishment, the UPR has finished two rounds of review and is going to hold the third round. And the human rights protection of special groups in each country has become the focus in the first two rounds of review.American government always declares itself as "human rights defenders",however, the establishment of UPR broke America’s autarchy on the issue of human rights, and America has to admit its existing human rights problems, especially the serious infringement of human rights of special groups.Based on the specific contents of the two rounds of review that the United States had accepted, this paper is going to analyze the impact of UPR on human rights protection of special groups in America. This paper consists of four parts. The first part is an introduction, mainly introducing the purpose and significance of the topic, and sorting out and summarizing the research status of the topic at home and abroad. The second part is an introduction of basic concept, and briefly states the UPR and the protection of human rights of special groups in America. The third part is mainly discussing the impact of the UPR on the protection of human rights of special groups in America. The author selected three subjects from special groups as the research objects, separately discussing and concluding the impact of the UPR on the protection of human rights of each subject. The last part is based on the previous paper and makes a prediction of the upcoming third round UPR.
