Coach-athlete relationship is the most basic and important relationship in the field of competitive sports.The quality of coach-athlete relationship affects athletes’ training and competition,and then affects athletes’ competitiveness and performance.Harmonious coach-athlete relationship is conducive to enhancing athletes’ motivation,mental toughness,athlete engagement,and then improve performance;be beneficial to improve athletes’ satisfaction and psychological well-being;keep training and competitions in progress smoothly.The poor coach-athlete relationship make athletes appear psycholo-gical burden,reduce athletes’ self-confidence,aggravate athletes’ burnout,and even lead to athletes’ sports career end early.It follows that coach-athlete relationship plays a vital role in competitive sports.Some studies have shown that coach-athlete relationship maintenance strategy can affect the quality of coach-athlete relationship.Thus,in order to promote the quality of coach-athlete relationship,it is urgent to explore the coach-athlete relationship maintenance strategy.Early days,foreign scholars have made some preliminary achievements about the coach-athlete relationship maintenance strategy.Most of the domestic studies are based on personal experience or literature induction to analyse,lack of theoretical and empirical research localization.In view of this,this study is based on the perspective of coaches to develop the coach-athlete relationship maintenance strategy research.This study based on the COMPASS model,used grounded theory research methods,chose 12 coaches as interview subjects,to build a coach-athlete relationship maintenance strategy model under the perspective of Chinese coaches,be aims to provide theoretical direction for the management of coach-athlete relationship.The results show that Chinese coaches’ relationship maintenance strategy includes 9 dimensions:conflict management(negotiated settlement,repressive,avoidance,tolerance)、openness(communication,humour,respect,trust,democracy,role conversion)、motivation(motivate,show ability,teach devotion,lead by example,improve oneself)、positivity(adapt,fair and just,teach according to one’s aptitude,initiative)、advice(recommenda-tions,reward feedback)、support(goal support,sports support,non-sports support,emotional support,help)、social networks(interactive,leisure and entertainment,share joys and sorrows)、team management(education,management,team meeting,training captain,contact with parents,exact demands)、coach authority(authority,reprimand).
