The level of ninth-grades’ learning engagement is of great significance to whether they can enter high school smoothly.Because under the background of nine years compulsory education, the senior high school entrance examination is the first important life selection for teenagers. To obtain admission tickets in the examination, the ninth-grades need to devote themselves to study. Some studies have shown that parental education expectations can predict their children’s learning engagement level.According to Finn’s expectation network theory, parental expectation can directly affect individual behavior, and can affect individual behavior by influencing their self-expectation.Therefore,this study investigates the influence of parental education expectation on the learning engagement of the ninth-grades under the condition that the self-education expectation of ninth-grades is the intermediary. In addition, school is an important place for the development of youth socialization, and the school will have an impact on the attitude and behavior development of teenagers. Therefore, this study introduces the important moderator variable of school resources, and intends to build a moderated mediation model. In this study,1026 ninth-grades in Jinan City were selected as subjects, and the Parental Education Expectation Scale,Self-education Expectation Scale,Learning Engagement Scale and School Resource Subscale of Benson et al.Development Resource Scale were used as research tools to investigate the mechanism of parental education expectation on the level of learning engagement of ninth-grades,and discusses the mediating effect of ninth-grades’ self-education expectation and the regulation of school resources. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)In terms of gender, girls’ parental education expectation,self-education expectation, learning engagement level and school resources are significantly higher than boys’;in urban and rural areas, parental education expectation and self-educational expectation of urban students are significantly higher than those of rural students;(2)Parental education expectation,ninth-grades’ learning investment,ninth-grades’ self-education expectation and school resources were significantly positively correlated;(3)Parental education expectation can significantly positively predict the level of learning engagement of ninth-grades,and ninth-grades’ self-education expectation plays a complete mediating role between them;(4)School resources play a moderating role in the relationship between parental education expectation and ninth-grades’ self-education expectation, and parental education expectation has a stronger predictive effect on ninth-grades’ self-education expectation under the condition of high school resources.
