Abstract/Summary:
Learning engagement means that students actively participate in various learning activities in the learning process, think deeply, and actively respond to challenges and setbacks, which are accompanied by positive emotional experience.A large number of previous theoretical studies have shown that family background factor, especially parents’ education expectation,is one of the important factors influencing junior high school students’ learning engagement. In the current society, the phenomenon of "hope one’s sons(or girls)will have a bright future" is common. All parents want their children to have better academic performance, but sometimes the results often go against their wishes. What factors are playing a role? Based on this, this study constructed a chain mediation model to explore the relationship between parental educational expectation and learning engagement of junior high school students,as well as the mediating role between parental involvement in education and self-education expectation. On this basis,a specific and operable group tutoring program is formulated to intervene in the self-education expectations of junior high school students,so as to improve the learning engagement level of junior high school students. This study has two sub-studies,the study method of Study 1 was the questionnaire survey method, using the parents education expectation questionnaire, parents education involved questionnaire,self-education expectation questionnaire and learning investment questionnaire of two schools 572 junior high school students, examine the influence of parents education expectations on junior learning engagement, and parents education involved and self-education expectations in the intermediary effect between the two,and investigate whether different types of parents education involved has different effects on junior high school students. On the basis of Study 1,Study 2 selected students with low self-education expectation and learning engagement scores, and selected 20 subjects and randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 10 subjects in each group. The group counseling intervention lasted six times for the experimental group, while the control group attended the intervention theme with an unrelated viewing activity at the same time,so as to determine the effectiveness of the group counseling intervention program and analyze the reasons for its effect. The results found that:(1)There was a significant positive relationship between parental education expectation and the learning engagement of junior high school students.(2)Parental education involvement plays a significant intermediary role between parental education expectation and learning engagement;self-education expectation plays a significant intermediary role between parental education expectation and learning engagement;parental education involvement and self-education expectation play a complete chain intermediary role between parental education expectation and learning engagement of junior middle school students.(3)Different types of parents education involved in self-education of junior high school students expectations and learning engagement direct effects, intellectual and emotional involvement in the junior high school self education expectations and learning engagement has a significant positive direct effect, behavior in the junior high school students self education expectations and learning engagement effect is not significant.(4)After the group counseling intervention, the scores of the experimental group participants improved their self-education expectation and learning engagement, and the scores were significantly different before and after the intervention, which showed that the intervention had a good effect on improving the self-education expectation of junior high school students, and further improved the learning engagement level of junior high school students. The results of this study reveal the influence of parental education expectation on junior high school students and the mechanism of parental education involvement and self-education expectation, and provide a strong theoretical and practical basis for future educators to improve the self-education expectation and learning engagement of junior high school students.
