| As Internet technologies develop,social software having become crucial tools for the people who live in contemporary society.Meanwhile,publishing selfies online have also become the major manner for the individuals in the social network to interact with society.Nowadays,the annual amounts of selfies taken by a modern individual is equivalent to the total amount of the photos taken by an individual during his/her lifetime who lived in an earlier era.However,what are the motivations normalizing the selfies as an individual live in the digital word? Which motivations are the most important? And can we elucidate the complex and interwoven relations between those motivations,as well as the relation between the different motivations and mobile Internet culture? People in different eras and group are utilizing selfies to self-presentation in net and communication with each other.Nevertheless,the characterizations,as well as the motivations,are presented distinctly among different individual.In this demographic social network era,the researches based on the traditional paradigm of use and satisfaction ignore the Intergenerational and group feature of the target can hardly reveal or solve the concrete problems in the age of Social work.Using Q methodology for research involves a system of operational procedures.Our study firstly collected researches and reports about the motivation of selfies,combined with interviews with generation Z female college students about the reasons and scenes of selfies,to extracted 93 sentences describing different selfie motivations and scenes to form the Q sample matrix,which was formed after filter a Q-sample consisting of 46 statements is presented.Then input the Q sample into the online Q ranking system HTMLQ,and then search for the research object to complete the online ranking system.In addition to the research steps included in the Q method itself,this study also added 16 short-term narcissistic personality scales to the ranking system.The purpose of this research is to observe whether there is a correlation between the different types of motives and narcissism.After the 66 Q ranking results were obtained,by using the special statistical software of Q Methodology which called PQ Method to go on data entry and factor analysis.After the Principal Component factor analysis of the 66 Q-sorting,I extracted 8 categories which based on the principal that if Eigenvalues is greater than 1 and then executed Varimax rotation to the 8 categories and analyze all of the factor loading.Through analysis of the factor loading,five factor types were finally obtained,corresponding to the five selfie motivations.They are distributed storage of autobiographical memory,appreciation and impression management,achievement sharing.Participants get the highest degree of narcissism in obtaining happiness,attention,and social incentives,among which the attributions to appreciation and impression management motivation,and then combined with qualitative interviews to explain and analyze each factor type.After analyzing the five types of selfie motivations of Gen Z female college students,based on Goffman’s theory of drama and Belk’s theory of digital self-extension,the cultural criticism theory of the Frankfurt School was used for reference.Finally,I discuss from four aspects around the conclusion: Selfie as a means of interpersonal communication;Selfies as the self-digital extension of subject-object co-construction;The front and back images increasingly overlapping in selfies;Empty and personalized subject under the discipline of technology and culture. |
