Road And Village Social Memory Construction

As a symbol of modernization and state rights,the road will speed up the flow of materials,people and information in minority villages,so that they can quickly get rid of the state of "isolation".Conversely,villages bypassed by a modern road are likely to come to a complete standstill.But in any case,the construction of the road will bring great social change to the local community to some extent.As one of the factors that influence the great changes in the social communication mode of ethnic minority villages,the road will constantly change the villagers’ cognition and memory of the village with its construction and the resulting influence.In other words,the change of road not only changes the destiny of the village,but also changes the social structure and social interaction of the village,so as to constantly rebuild the social memory of the villagers.This paper mainly adopts the methods of literature research and field investigation,and takes Zhiziluo Village in Nujiang Prefecture as the research site.From the road point of view,it first analyzes the impact of road changes on the local community,and then discusses what kind of memory picture Zhiziluo’s social memory presents and what forces participate in the construction of Zhiziluo’s social memory through villagers’ interaction and communication practice around the village.The findings are as follows: First,in Zhiziluo,the change of road is consistent with the construction and change of memory.Every time the road changes,the original livelihood and lifestyle of the villagers in Zhiziluo,the villagers’ ideas and social relations suffer unprecedented impacts and challenges,which leads to changes in the villagers’ cognition and memory of the village.Secondly,Zhiziluo’s social memory is a dynamic construction process,which is related to the rise and fall of villages.When Zhiziluo changed from a frontier minority village to the seat of Nujiang State and Bijiang County,and then declined to an ordinary village,the villagers’ social memory of villages showed different stages.At the same time,the real economic benefits gained by the interaction between villagers and villages and the emotional value experience gained by villagers through social interaction will also affect villagers’ memory of Zhiziluo.Thirdly,Zhiziluo’s memory construction is the result of the interweaving of various forces,and it is diversified.Among them,there are official memories constructed by state rights and government,folk memories constructed by ordinary villagers through communication and interaction,and media memories constructed by media participation,which overlap each other but are different.With the construction of new roads and the advancement of the reconstruction project of Memory City,Zhiziluo is likely to regain its central position as a "memory city",and the official memory,folk memory and media memory constructed around Zhiziluo can be linked with each other because of the common meeting point of "memory city".
