The Effect Of Emotion Regulation Strategies On Aggressive Behavior Of College Students After Competitive Violent Games | | Posted on:2022-04-14 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:N N Fan | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2507306497953529 | Subject:Psychology | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Along with the development of the Internet,the e-sports industry also develops rapidly.The acceptance of electronic games become higher than in the past and video games has become an important entertainment.Violent video games are welcomed by many youth because of some exciting scene such as "killing","shooting","bloody".Researchers have conducted extensive studies on the relationship between video games and aggressive behavior.But less research focus on how to reduce the impact of violent video games on aggressive behavior.Three experiments were designed to explore the effects of emotion regulation strategies on college students’ aggressive behavior after playing violent video games.In the first study,the influence of violent factors and competitive factors on aggressive behavior was explored.The results showed that the most aggressive behavior was in the high violence and high competition group.Therefore,the second study only studied the situation of video games with high violence and high competition.In order to find ways to reduce aggressive behavior,the second study add emotion regulation strategies after consulting literature.In the second study,the effects of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression on aggressive behavior of college students after playing violent competitive video games were investigated.The results showed that both cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression strategies could decrease aggressive behavior.The third study focused on the differences of aggressive behaviors in college students’ with different game experiences after using cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression strategies.The third study combined with event-related potentials(ERP).The neural mechanism of emotion regulation strategy on emotion processing was explored.Three experiments were included in this study.We designed experiment 1 by 2×2between-subject design to investigate how violent factors and competitive factors influenced college students’ aggressive behavior.The results showed that the participants in the high violence group took more risks,while the participants in the high competition group took more risks.There was a significant interaction between factor of violence and factor of competition.The participants who belonged to highly violent and highly competitive group had the most aggressive behavior.We designed experiment 2 by one factor between-subject design to investigate how emotion regulation strategies influenced college students’ aggressive behavior after violent competition video game situation.The results showed that the cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression group attacks were significantly lower than without the use of emotion regulation strategies group aggressive behavior and cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression group had no significant difference in aggressive behavior.We designed experiment 3 by 2×2 between-subject design to investigate differences in aggressive behaviors of participants with different game experience after using emotion regulation strategy.At the same time,the neural mechanism of emotion regulation strategy on emotional processing was explored by combining ERP technology.Results showed that: cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression group had no significant difference in aggression.However,ERP analyses further indicated that the mean amplitude of the LPP in response to the intimate pictures in the individuals adopting the cognitive reappraisal strategy was significantly higher than individuals adopting the expression suppression strategy.For the FRN component,participants in cognitive reappraisal strategy showed stronger FRN amplitudes than the expression suppression strategy.Individuals with low gaming experience showed stronger FRN components than those with high gaming experience.This study examines the impact of emotion regulation strategies on aggressive behavior in violent competitive video games,which enriches the theoretical research on emotion regulation strategies.The research results are conducive to reducing the impact of video games on aggressive behavior. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Violent competitive video games, Cognitive reappraisal, Expression suppression, Game experience, Aggressive behavior | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
