The purpose of this study is to understand the father-daughter relationship of girls in late adolescence and early adulthood, and to explore the influence of the father-daughter relationship on the daughter’s gender role identity. This article first adopts a questionnaire survey method, using the "Bem Gender Role Inventory" to randomly select 3 androgyny girls,3 feminine girls,2 masculine girls,1 undifferentiated girl from 108 questionnaires based on the proportion of the results.9 interviewees in total.Using the life narrative research method in qualitative research, the 9 girls in late adolescence and early adulthood(16-25 years old)were interviewed in-depth one-on-one in the form of semi-structured interviews. The content of the interview is mainly the family background information and growth experience of the interviewees, focusing on collecting the parent-child interaction status under the family structure, the perception of the father, the family structure, and the understanding of self and gender roles.According to the theory of explanatory phenomenology,Nvivo12 qualitative analysis software is used to perform open coding, main axis coding, and selective coding of interview data. The coding results are presented in two parts: the first part is the case coding analysis, and the second part is the four typical cases.Life narrative. The main conclusions of this research:1.The influencing factors of father-daughter relationship are mainly divided into:father-daughter communication mode,father-daughter quality of getting along, daughter’s cognition of father-daughter relationship, daughter’s image of father in her mind.2.Androgynous girls have both masculine and femininity. The father-daughter relationship is two-way,stable and balanced, and the father-daughter relationship is more equal. The image of this part of the father is prominently manifested as strict, traditional, stable, and caring for the children.3.Feminized girls tend to be feminine. The father-daughter relationship is unidirectional and polarized. The intimacy between father and daughter is very high, but there is a distance. The image of this part of the father is prominently shown as family care, delicate, and overprotective.Fourth, masculine girls tend to be masculine, the father-daughter relationship lacks communication and interaction, and the father-daughter shows a strong sense of alienation, and the intimacy is extremely low.The image of this part of the father is prominently manifested as immaturity, absence, and emotional neglect.5.There is no obvious gender trend in the personality traits of undifferentiated girls. The father-daughter relationship is two-way and stable, and the intimacy is high, but the relationship between father and daughter has not changed over time. The image of this part of the father is prominently shown as being careful, not good at expressing, and treating his daughter like a child.According to the life narrative of the case,we learned the process of the formation of the daughter’s gender role for each gender role type, and found that(1)Under different individuals of the same type, the father’s influence process on the daughter’s gender role identity is different, but the influence results are similar.(2)The father-daughter relationship changes with the cognitive development of the daughter, and the perception of the father-daughter relationship is different at different ages.(3)The father-daughter relationship works under the family structure, and the relationship between parents may affect the daughter’s perception of the father.(4)The patriarchal thought still affects the gender role identity of contemporary young women.Based on this, four suggestions are put forward: the first parents should try their best to be "emotionally not absent",the second parents should implement gender equality education, the third parent’s education model should change with the growth of their children, and the fourth parents should not Involve children into their conflicts.
