Since the 1990 s,with the development of the Internet, countries and regions around the world have become more connected, globalisation has intensified, and the movement of people between countries(regions)around the world has become more convenient and frequent than ever before, with transnational migrants playing an important role in the generation of trade between their home and host countries. As migration flows and international trade inherently form a network of interconnected social networks,it is necessary to explore the structural characteristics and evolutionary patterns of migration and trade networks,as well as the impact of transnational migration on international trade, using a social network perspective.Based on previous studies, this paper adopts a social network analysis method to select 232 interconnected countries and regions in the world as research objects, and measures the migration network and trade network composed of these countries(regions)as nodes over a time span of 29 years from 1990 to 2019.In addition, the global value chain-related research method is applied to divide trade into mainly trade domestic In addition, the GVC-related research methodology is used to classify trade into domestic value added exports(DVA)and foreign value added exports(FVA),and to measure the DVA and FVA networks respectively. At the macro level, this paper analyses the overall structural characteristics and evolutionary patterns of the networks, and at the micro level,it analyses the importance and development of each node of the networks,so as to gain a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of international migration networks and international trade networks,as well as to understand the impact of international migration networks on international trade networks. The results of the study show that: firstly, from the analysis of the overall structural characteristics, for the international migration network, the international migration flow continues to grow, showing a trend of densification, the network nodes become more accessible, and the migration flow between countries and regions becomes closer and more stable;for the international trade network, the trade network also shows a trend of steady but increasing, the DVA network remains basically stable, and the FVA network continues to grow in size. Both networks have evolved into denser networks, but the trade accessibility of the DVA network is significantly higher than that of the FVA network, and the trade links between nodes in the DVA network are closer than those in the FVA network, while the agglomeration effect of the DVA network is significantly higher than that of the FVA network.Secondly, from the analysis of the importance of individual network nodes, for the international migration network, the status pattern of countries in the network is basically stable, among which the US,UK,China,France,Canada,India,Germany,Australia,Italy and Japan have been more important in the network, while South Asian countries such as India and the Philippines have been increasing their influence after entering the new millennium, and the degree of loosening or tightening of national border management will significantly affect the country’s status as an intermediary of migration flows China has been a major outflow country. For international trade networks, more similar to migration networks, the pattern of countries’ positions in international trade networks has changed less, with the UK,the US,Japan,Germany,France and Italy consistently having higher positions in the network, while government policies or other factors can significantly lead to fluctuations in foreign trade imports, with the UK,the US,Japan and Germany having an important role as trade intermediaries;in the case of China China’s position has increased considerably, especially after China’s accession to the WTO.Finally, the results of the QAP correlation analysis show that migration flows have a highly significant impact on international trade networks. In addition, geographical distance, economic distance, differences in government efficiency and political stability are significantly correlated with international trade value added networks, while the variables of proximity of countries, differences in corruption control, differences in the level of rule of law, differences in the quality of rules and differences in freedom of expression are not significantly correlated with international trade value added networks. The results of the QAP regression analysis show that cross-country migration significantly affects the international trade network, geographical distance and economic distance also have a significant effect on international trade, but the proximity of countries does not have an effect, government efficiency, rule of law and freedom of expression differences have a diminishing effect on trade, and corruption control, political stability and rule quality differences between countries also affect trade to some extent;Geographical distance does not limit trade generation in developed countries, but large differences in legal systems between countries inhibit trade, whereas the opposite is true for developing countries; The Belt and Road cooperation significantly reduces the negative impact of geographical distance, differences in corruption control between countries and differences in freedom of expression on trade.
