The current education is full of utilitarianism. The school’s mission is to efficiently export students with test-taking skills. In order to assess the standards, teachers use the rest of the class to consolidate their knowledge points and even occupy so-called“sub-disciplines” such as art, music and sports. At the same time, parents expect their children to have a decent and high-paying career in the future, always putting pressure on students. Therefore, due to the long-term passive test-oriented education, students are used to spending in intense memory and sea training, gradually losing interest in learning, losing their ability to perceive good things, and the spirit becomes sensitive and fragile. The above phenomenon is called utilitarian education crisis by Nussbaum. She believes that education should cultivate democratic citizens with judgment, imagination and compassion, but education has become a tool for economic growth.Humanities and art have gradually become utilitarianism. If the victims of education continue to let the humanities shrink,we will pay a painful price.Eliot Eisner adheres to the subject-based art education and puts forward the "discipline-based" art education theory. He believes that the main value of art education lies in the unique contribution of personal experience, and designs for art creation, art criticism, art history and The curriculum structure of the four areas of aesthetics aims to develop students’ ability to empathize, creative problem-solving,unconstrained judgment and the ability to understand the essence of things. This study is based on Eisner and Nussbaum’s critique of utilitarian education, discussing art education, exploring how art affects cognition and creativity, exploring the importance of art education to a democratic society, and arousing social versus art.The concern of education has put forward some implementable strategies for the current art education to get out of the utilitarian education crisis.
