| Condom use resistance is the successful avoidance of condom use during sex with a partner who wants to use a condom. It was implemented when one partner wanted to use condoms, and the partner who didn’t want to use condoms used the CUR strategies to successfully avoid condom use.Correct and consistent condom use can reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies. However, despite these risks, most young men and women report not always using condoms. The situation of condom use by college students in China is not optimistic. In recent years, the incidence of unwanted pregnancies,HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases among sexually active college students has been increasing.Domestic studies on condom use among college students mostly focus on the current situation of condom use and its influencing factors, but there is no study on condom use resistance. Therefore, this study combined quantitative research and qualitative research to study the behavior of college students refusing to use condoms,to explore its current situation and its relationship with important related variables.Study 1 explored the use and accept situation of its CUR strategies and the gender, sexual health related behaviors, drinking, sexual attitude, attitude to condoms, condom self-efficacy,sexism and sexual assault on the impact of CUR strategies, which with the method of questionnaire survey and in 885 had unprotected sex heterosexual college students as samples. As a result,82.5% of participants reported that they had accepted the CUR strategies with a partner who did not want to use condoms,72.4% of participants reported that they had used the CUR strategies to their partner.More than 50% of participants reported using the seduction and risk-level Reassurance CUR strategy for sexual partners, which were the most used and accepted.Risk factors such as history of sexual assault, alcohol consumption before sex and hostile sexism increased the use and acceptance of the CUR strategies. The more positive the attitude towards condoms and the higher the self-efficacy of condom use, which would reduce the frequency of using and accepting the CUR strategies.Foreign studies have shown that history of sexual assault, hostile sexism affect the CUR strategies, and condom self-efficacy can predict willingness and actual use of condoms. However, the influence of history of sexual assault, hostile sexism and condom self-efficacy on the CUR strategies has not been explored in previous studies. On the basis of study 1,Study 2 attempted to explore the interaction mechanism and explore whether hostile sexism and condom self-efficacy would influence the relationship between the history of sexual assault and CUR strategies. The results showed that the history of sexual assault could significantly and positively predict the use and acceptance of CUR strategies, and meanwhile, the hostile sexism towards women and the condom self-efficacy played an intermediary role between the history of sexual assault and CUR strategies.Research 1 and 2 adopted quantitative research methods to explore the influence of variables on the acceptance and use of CUR strategies,so research 3 adopted qualitative research to supplement it.After interviewing and analyzing 12 students over the age of 18,we learned that whether we use the CUR strategies to our partners or accept the CUR strategies from our partners, which is a common phenomenon in sexual behavior. The main reason respondents used condoms was to prevent unwanted pregnancies, less to prevent sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV.We collated and analyzed respondents’ CUR strategies, and found that domestic and foreign CUR strategies have similarities and differences. Most respondents reported using safe menstrual periods and acting cute to refuse to use condoms with their partners, which were not included in the CUR strategy scale compiled by foreign researchers.Above all, this study is the first to explore the use and acceptance of the condom use resistance strategies of Chinese heterosexual college students by using qualitative and quantitative methods. It has important theoretical guidance and practical significance for prevention and intervention of safety education for Chinese college students in the future. |
