A Study On Online Presence,Learning Engagement And Learning Harvest Of Local College Students Under The Epidemic

In the spring semester of 2020,the outbreak of COVID-19 prevented the normal teaching of all kinds of schools.According to this situation,the guideline "suspending on-campus events,but not teaching and learning events" was given by the Ministry of Education.This study takes undergraduate students from 2016 to 2019 in S University,a local university,as the research object.A total of 318 valid questionnaires were collected and 7 students were interviewed.After analyzing the data of students’ online presence,learning engagement and learning harvest,there are the results:(1)There aren’t significant differences in online presence,learning engagement and learning harvest based on the three individual variables of gender,grade and college;students’ behavioral engagement in humanities and social sciences are significantly higher than those in science,engineering and medicine.(2)Students who had online courses before,their cognitive presence,learning engagement and its dimension of cognitive engagement,as well as learning harvest,shows significantly higher than those who hadn’t taken online courses.(3)Students’ online presence and its dimension of social presence and cognitive presence,as well as learning engagement and its dimension of affective engagement,in specialty courses(compulsory specialty courses and elective specialty courses),are significantly higher than those in general courses and public courses.(4)Students’ every dimension of online presence,learning engagement and learning harvest,show pairwise positive correlations.(5)Online presence and its dimension of teaching presence and cognitive presence can positively predict learning participation and its three dimensions significantly.But social presence can not positively predict behavioral engagement.(6)Online learning engagement and its dimension of affective engagement and cognitive engagement can positively predict learning harvest significantly,but behavioral engagement can’t.(7)Online presence and its three dimensions can positively predict learning harvest significantly.(8)Online learning engagement has a partial mediating effect between online presence and learning harvest.Because students’ online presence and learning engagement have an important positive impact on their learning harvest,this paper puts forward some suggestions from students in different major,learning experience in online courses,the general and public courses,the quality of network and software,etc;also focuses on the improvement of online presence and learning engagement,especially the three dimensions of online presence——teaching presence,social presence and cognitive presence.With the above efforts,students’ learning harvest can make a great progress.
