Build A School With Culture:Analysis And Enlightenment Of The Successful Rise Of Hong Kong University Of Science And Technology

Cultural prosperity means national prosperity,and a strong culture means a strong country.Culture is the soul of a university.The construction of a world-class university is inseparable from the guidance of university culture.Strengthening university culture construction is also an urgent need to run a socialist university with Chinese characteristics and an important way to carry out the fundamental task of cultivating people by virtue.At present,there is still a gap between China’s universities and the world’s first-class universities in terms of the concept of university culture construction,the construction of modern university system,the code of conduct for teachers and students and the construction of campus material environment.Therefore,to study the connotation of university culture and explore the construction path of university culture suitable for the national conditions is not only the realistic thinking and strategic construction for the future trend,survival and development and core competitiveness of universities in China,but also the only way to promote the realization of high-quality development of higher education in China and the construction of a powerful country in education.As far as its connotation is concerned,university culture includes four aspects:idea culture,material culture,system culture and behavior culture.At present,there are some common problems in the construction of university culture,which are mainly reflected in the following aspects: the construction of idealistic culture,the core of university culture,is often neglected and its ideas are not clear enough;The system culture is not perfect,and the modern university system adapted to the construction of "double first-class" has not been established in a real sense.The lack of a unified sense of value identity with the characteristics of the school makes the behavior characteristics of individuals in the campus often deviate under its influence.While paying attention to the expansion of the scale and the renewal of infrastructure,the cultural connotation of the physical environment of the school is ignored,and the cultural facilities of symbolic significance are still relatively lacking.Therefore,starting from the practice of university cultural construction,it is very necessary to strengthen the research on the existing problems and countermeasures of university cultural construction in our country.Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(HKUST)is a world-class university that has risen successfully in a short period of time.This article selects the Hong Kong university of science and technology as the research object,the preparatory period from school to school start-up period,and then to three stages of the development of the school later period,the school for more than 20 years of development has carried on the comb,comb through literature research and text methods,respectively from the four dimensions of university culture: concept culture,system culture,material culture and behavior culture deeply analyze the Hong Kong university of science and technology,culture and the development of the school,comparison and analysis of its unique university culture,and the current problems existing in the process of university culture construction on the mainland,combined with the Hong Kong university of science and technology culture construction experience,This paper puts forward some pertinent and feasible countermeasures and suggestions,in order to provide beneficial ideas and operational paths for Chinese mainland universities to realize cultural strengthening and accelerate the construction of world-class universities.
