Impulsive behavior is a kind of reckless and hasty behavior of the individuals who do things without thinking about the consequences. These behaviors are incompatible with the environment and often disgusting, even more destructive and harmful.Children and adolescents often cannot control their emotions and behaviors because their physical and mental development is in an important transitional stage from immature to maturity. When they are faced with uncertain situations and information, their emotions and behaviors are getting worse, which can lead to more negative emotions and impulsive behavior. However, the negative effects of impulsive behavior cannot be underestimated and need to be guided and controlled.Studies have confirmed that in the process of children’s behavior development, parental rearing styles play a vital role and have an extremely important impact on the formation and development of children and adolescents’personality. In addition, uncertain environments often bring a sense of self-uncertainty to children and adolescents, which varies from person to person and can be measured by the Intolerance of Uncertainty(IU).IU affects the individual’s cognition, emotions, and reactions.IU has a very obvious impact on individual emotions.Unstable emotions are often the main source of impulsive behaviors. What is the relationship between impulsive behavior and parenting style, intolerable uncertainty, and emotional stability, and how do they affect each other?Based on this, the aim of the study is to explore the influence of parental rearing styles on children and adolescents’impulsive behavior, and to examines the mediating effects of intolerable uncertainty and emotional stability between parental rearing styles and impulsive behavior. The research includes two parts:In the first part of this study. The children’s version of IUSC-27 was revised to form the Chinese version of IUSC,and the reliability and validity were tested. In the study, the Children’s Multidimensional Anxiety Scale(MASC)and the Revised Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS)were used as the criterion questionnaires.A total of 1,293 students in grades 5 to 8 were selected from the primary and secondary schools in Qiannan Prefecture,Guizhou Province. The results show that:(1)The Cronbach’sαcoefficient of revised IUSC Chinese version is 0.860.(2)The exploratory factor analysis extracts 3 factors with eigenvalues greater than 1,and the factor loading value of each item can reach more than 0.4.(3)The confirmatory factor fitting index of the Chinese version of IUSC is:χ~2/df=2.118,CFI=0.910,IFI=0.911,GFI=0.933,TLI=0.900,RMSEA=0.049.(4)The Chinese version of IUSC is significantly positively correlated with MASC and RCMAS.(5)The total score of the Chinese version of IUSC is highly correlated with each dimension(r=0.838~0.879,p<0.001);there is a moderate correlation between dimensions(r=0.547~0.658,p<0.001).In the second part of this research,A total of 1935 primary and middle school students in Guizhou and Henan were investigated by using(EMBU),Chinese version IUSC,Emotional Stability Questionnaire(formed by the reverse of the final scores of each item in The Chinese Big Five Personality Inventory brief version neurotic questionnaire)and Chinese version of Barratt Impulse scale(BIS-8).Understand the relationship between parenting style, intolerable uncertainty, emotional stability and impulsive behavior.In-depth understanding of the current characteristics of impulsive behavior of children and adolescents, the results show that:(1)The impulsive behaviors of children and adolescents are significantly different in demographic variables such as gender, grade, family type,etc.;(2)The parental rearing styles, intolerable uncertainty, emotional stability, and impulsive behaviors of children and adolescents are significantly correlated with each other.(3)Intolerable uncertainty plays a simple intermediary role in the relationship between parental rearing style and impulsive behavior;(4)Emotional stability plays a simple intermediary role in the relationship between parental rearing style and impulse;(5)Intolerable uncertainty and emotional stability acts as a chain mediator in the relationship between parental rearing styles and impulsive behaviors of children and adolescents. The conclusions were as following:(1)The reliability and validity of the revised Chinese version of the IUSC scale meet the statistical requirements and can be used as a tool to measure IU in children and adolescents in the Chinese context.(2)Through the mediation effect test, the study reveals that the parental rearing style not only directly affects the impulsive behavior of children and adolescents, but also affects emotional stability through intolerable uncertainty, which in turn affects the impulsive behavior of children and adolescents.
