2020 is the final year of poverty alleviation, and getting rid of regional poverty in rural areas has become a hot topic of the year. For a long time, our country’s development has seen inequality between urban and rural areas. The main body of the city has concentrated more high-quality resources to drive its own high-speed development and operation, while the rural areas have limited resources and slow development. The lack of synchronization between urban and rural development has created a huge gap between urban and rural areas. The most direct reflection is the existence of urban-rural income gap.Education has always been an element with hematopoietic function.Vocational education,as one of the four major sectors of education, has a relatively direct connection with rural residents and is considered to be civilian education. What is the inherent connection between vocational education and the urban-rural income gap? What is the mechanism of action? The current research on the impact of vocational education investment on the urban-rural income gap is relatively small, and this research is of great significance for understanding the current state of national vocational education and the government’s future funding investment. This thesis first combs and analyzes the relevant theories that produce and affect the urban-rural income gap.On this basis,a theoretical analysis of the mechanism by which vocational education investment affects the urban-rural income gap is carried out.Combining the human capital theory and the urban tendency brought about by the nature of education quasi-public products, vocational education investment will have two opposite effects on the urban-rural income gap.Further collect panel data from 29 provinces in China from 2008 to 2019,and use the fixed effects model to conduct empirical research. The results show that at the national level, government vocational education funding has widened the income gap between China’s urban and rural areas, and the analysis of the three regions of East,Central, and West reveals huge regional differences.Vocational education investment in the eastern region can effectively narrow the gap, while the central and western regions will have different effects. The investment will instead widen the gap.In addition, the level of economic development, urbanization rate, and degree of opening to the outside world have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between vocational education investment and urban-rural income gap. With the growth of the three, the effect of vocational education investment on the expansion of the urban-rural income gap has slowed. At the end of the thesis, three policy suggestions are given, including increasing the awareness and construction of the integration of urban and rural education, encouraging multiple subjects to participate in rural vocational education investment, and continuous education and publicity.
