Folk chess games are carrying the traditional competitive spirit,also contain rich mathematical cognitive skills and mathematical core accomplishment.It is clear that folk chess games help to the development of children’s mathematical ability,and have the unique value of mathematics education.Based on the mathematics education value of folk chess games,this paper designed an intervention programme which use folk chess games as the content of the intervention and use the development of children’s mathematical skills as the goal,then verified the effectiveness of intervention programme through an experimental study.The intervention experiment adopts the quasi-experimental design mode of the experimental group and the control group.According to the experimental conditions,60 children aged 5-6 from Liuyang X Kindergarten were selected as the subjects,including 30 children in the experimental group and 30 children in the control group.The experimental process consists three parts:(1)Pre-test.Within one week before the intervention,the author used the "5-6 Years Old Children’s Mathematical Ability Checklist" compiled by the researchers to test all subjects’ mathematical ability.At the same time,the ’’Early Childhood Family Mathematics Education Questionnaire’’was used to measure the cultural capital of young children’s family.(2)Intervention.The children in the experimental group had an 8-week period of folk chess games,during the same period,the children in the control group had normal kindergarten education activities.(3)Post-test.Within one week after the end of the intervention,the author used the "5-6 Years Old Children’s Mathematical Ability Checklist" to test all subjects’ mathematical ability again.The conclusion of this study is as follows:(1)Folk chess games can promote the development of 5-6 years old children’s mathematical ability.(2)There is no significant gender difference in the intervention effect of folk chess games,but the development speed of the girls’ mathematics ability is faster than that of boys.(3)There is no significant difference in family cultural capital between the intervention effect of folk chess games,but the children with low family cultural capital have faster development in mathematics ability,and the development of middle group and high group children’s mathematics ability are slowly.Based on the mathematical educational value of folk chess games,this study suggests that kindergartens should enhance teachers’ ability to design and implement folk chess games.Therefore,we should start with reasonable screening,proper transformation and scientific arrangement of folk chess games to improve the design ability of teachers’ Folk chess games;we should also start with creating a good game field and implementing effective teacher guidance to improve the implementation ability of teachers’ Folk chess games.
