On the basis of summarizing his own years of teaching experience,John Dewey,a famous American,absorbed and learned from the cultural essence and ideological essence of his predecessors,and put forward the idea of "learning by doing".Until today,the idea of "learning by doing" with distinct practicality and operability still has a profound influence on the field of education.In the new era,China’s labor education presents a new state of development.As the carrier and link of communication between occupation and society,labor education plays an important role in the society.In recent years,the development of labor education has made some achievements,but labor education is marginalized,purposed,intellectualized and other problems still exist,students’ labor quality and innovation ability still need to be improved.The practicality of labor determines the practical characteristics of labor education.At the same time,the thought meets labor education because of the "practical" character,and provides the possibility of reference for the latter.Based on the above thinking,this article first interprets Dewey’s idea of "learning by doing".He points out that "learning by doing" is "learning by experience" and "learning by activities",which fully reflects the combination of learning and doing.On this basis,the three pairs of relationships involved in the thought of "doing" are extracted,namely the relationship between man and nature,man and society,men and themselves,which are embodied in individuals learning to survive,learn to communicate and learn to surpass in the process of "doing".To some extent,this is consistent with the requirements of labor education,and prepare for the following content of this article.Secondly,it expounds the goals,characteristics and difficulties of labor education.Finally,after carefully analyzing the fit of the thought and labor education in China,the positive factors in the thought are mainly embodied in the relationship between man and nature involved in "middle school" to "return to nature";the relationship between people and society involved,inspiring labor education to "close to life";the relationship between people and themselves involved,inspiring teachers to improve their roles,and students to constantly surpass themselves.In this way,inherited critically the idea of "learning by doing ",and applied it to the labor education,in order to help the development of labor education in the new era.
