| Having a good peer relationship is good for the physical and mental development of the individual. This is especially true for junior high school students who have just entered adolescence. They have active minds and rich emotions. They are eager to gain understanding and recognition from their peers.Peer relationships have an important influence on their learning and life.Friendship quality is an individual’s evaluation of friendship status, which is an important indicator of peer relationships.Good friendship quality can release students’ academic stress, can promote their psychological health and social adjustment. The factors influencing friendship quality include both internal and external factors. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of parental conflict and emotional security on friendship quality of junior high school students, and to design a group counselling intervention program based on the research findings. In this study,1906 junior high school students were used as research objects, and the Child Perception of Parental Conflict Scale,Emotional Security Scale and Friendship Quality Questionnaire were used to investigate the characteristics of junior high school students’ perceived parental conflict, emotional security and friendship quality,to explore the relationship, and to reveal the mechanism of the role of emotional security in the relationship between parental conflict and friendship quality. The results show that(1)more significant gender and grade differences in perceived parental conflict, emotional security and friendship quality among junior high school students, but no significant differences in whether they were an only child;(2)parental conflict can significantly and negatively predict junior high school students’ emotional security and friendship quality;(3)emotional security can significantly and positively predict junior high school students’ friendship quality;and(4)emotional security plays a partially mediating role between parental conflict and junior high school students’ friendship quality. This indicates that parental conflict can not only directly affect the friendship quality of junior high school students, but also indirectly affect friendship quality through emotional security.Based on the results,a group counselling intervention program was designed around emotional security and a seven-week group intervention was conducted for subjects in the experimental and control groups, and a comparative analysis of pre and posttest data was conducted. The results showed that(1)the pre-test data of the subjects in the experimental and control groups did not differ, indicating that the two groups were homogeneous;(2)there were significant differences between the pre-test and post-test data of the subjects in the experimental group;(3)there were significant differences between the post-test data of the experimental and control groups.Above analysis indicates that the group counselling intervention program can indeed improve the emotional security of junior high school students, which in turn enhances their friendship quality. In conclusion, this study clarifies the impact of parental conflict on the friendship quality of junior high school students, and clarifies the partly mediating role of emotional security.Based on the results,a group counselling program that can improve junior high school students’ emotional security was put. Thus, the friendship quality was to improve to some extent. |
