As the product of China's brilliant farming civilization, traditional villages carry time-honored traditional culture, regional architecture and folk populism. In the past period, the rapid development of urbanization has made the protection of traditional villages fall into a certain dilemma. As the country puts forward the rural revitalization strategy and the concept of coordinated development of "three life",the protection and utilization of traditional villages have become the focus of attention. In recent years, although the theoretical research has made fruitful achievements, there are still many problems in the protection practice. There is a lack of profound understanding of the spatial characteristics of different types of traditional villages, and the protection planning is a mere formality, which makes the phenomenon of "one thousand villages are all the same" common. The value of traditional villages is reflected in the uniqueness of their spatial fabric. Therefore,we should not only study traditional villages as regional cultural symbols, but strengthen the field research and quantitative analysis of traditional villages. On the basis of fully understanding the spatial fabric of villages,we should put forward reasonable protection methods in combination with the requirements of norms. In this paper,by analyzing domestic and foreign research about traditional village protection induction course, research methods and research results, screening and summary can be applied to the forefront of domestic traditional village protection work methods and ideas, and a detailed explanation and study of related technical theory, attempts to quantitative analysis of some mature technology into the traditional village protection planning work,Strengthen the understanding of the spatial characteristics of traditional villages and the ability to control them, and improve the scientific and comprehensive planning decisions. For research purpose, this article selects the typical traditional village as the research sample,in the nanshan mountain in shandong nanshan village development history and realistic situation of detailed research and information gathering, evaluation standard combined with Chinese traditional villages and traditional village protection planning regulations concern the point to construct the hierarchy frame protection. In view of the different emphases of protection content at each level, quantitative analysis and qualitative evaluation were adopted to analyze the influencing factors and potential laws at each level, which mainly included natural environment, settlement unit, building yard and intangible cultural heritage. The quantified data and analysis results are taken as the reference basis and integrated into the link of protection zoning and protection measures formulation,so as to improve and optimize the entire protection workflow and form a set of traditional village protection methods with hierarchical promotion and equal emphasis on quantitative and qualitative aspects.Adding spatial quantitative analysis to the protection of traditional villages can better explain the symbiotic relationship between nature and villages, identify the spatial fabric relationship of traditional villages, strengthen the understanding and control of village characteristics, provide a more sufficient basis for the protection planning, and make the original demarcation methods and implementation measures more reasonable. At the same time, the functional structure layout, street and lane planning and building courtyards of villages can be adjusted and transformed with reference to spatial quantification indexes,so as to make the spatial environment of villages more coordinated with the production and life of villagers, thus realizing the activation and utilization of traditional villages and consolidating the development foundation of rural revitalization.
