A Comparative Study Of Iliad And Levi-Strauss' Theories Of Myth

Mircea ilyad is a representative of religious phenomenology,and Claude Levi Strauss is the father of structural functionalism.Both of them are important theorists in the 20 th century.They take myth as the research object,and form their own myth theory through the analysis and interpretation of myth.Two kinds of mythology theories came into being in the same period.Under the same background,they discussed mythology from different perspectives and levels,using their own research methods and starting from their own theoretical basis.They have their own emphases,and they all have their own understanding of mythology.The two kinds of mythological theories are bound to collide and compare with each other when they come out one after another.This paper attempts to sort out the mythological theoretical system and context of Eliade and Levi Strauss from a macro perspective,and compare the similarities and differences between the two kinds of mythological theories.This paper makes a comparative study of the attributes and structures of myths and the functions and meanings of myths,involving the emergence and extinction of myths,the sacredness and secularity,the structure of myths,the influence and significance of myths on human beings and society,and analyzes the different cognition and interpretation of myths by the two people.Eliade insists on the position of religious phenomenology,and discusses the characteristics and functions of mythology,as well as the influence of Mythology on people's spirit and behavior.Levi Strauss hopes to study the inherent structure of myth,and then excavate the primitive logic of human thinking.The two mythological theories have made great contributions to the study of mythology.By comparing them,the paper reveals the Enlightenment of comparing the two mythological theories.At the same time,it points out that Eliade and Levi Strauss affirmed the value of mythology and made great efforts to correct the name of mythology.It is valuable for the research and development of traditional culture to reflect on mythology and explore its positive elements.
