| In the early period of the founding of the United States,from the 1880s to the 1820s and 1830s,the emergence and development of women’s education played an important role in the history of women’s education in the United States.In the British colonies,women were excluded from formal schools and given basic education in literacy,simple writing and numeracy.In the early years after the founding of the People’s Republic of China,groups of girls’ schools appeared in the north American continent,and women had access to formal education.At this time,women’s education reformers advocated providing them with a wider range of education besides basic education.By comparing the development of women’s education in the colonial period with that in the early years of the People’s Republic of China,this paper attempts to analyze the content of women’s education in the early days of the People’s Republic of China,the reasons behind its rise and development,and the significance of education to women.The British colonial period,the authorities in the form of the law established the public school system in the United States,but affected by the traditional gender concept,agreed that women from all walks of life to inferior intelligence,and mainly in the field of family activities,therefore,female education is ignored,formal education institutions only open to men to participate in public life,women had to rely on family education,women and children school and apprenticeships and other informal forms for basic education,to meet the needs of the colony of religion and law.After the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the American society has produced a series of extensive and profound changes.The new ideological trend has revolutionized people’s thoughts.With the revolutionary republican and democratic consciousness,the enlightenment thought and the understanding of science and civilization,a discussion on women’s education has arisen in the whole country,which undoubtedly promotes the development of women’s education.In the early years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the main educational institution for women first appeared in the United States,and gradually developed.Women’s education was recognized by the society,and women gained the right to enter schools to receive higher level education.Women’s education in the early years of the founding of the rise and development challenges the traditional concept of gender difference,a group of women received education appeared on the stage of history with a new attitude,they changed the cognition of self,the cognition to the traditional marriage,and breakthrough the limitation of family areas,play a major role in the society as a whole.Since then,the first feminist movement conference was held in the middle of the 19th century.Participants not only demanded women to get equal educational rights,but also proposed equal political rights,which promoted the development of higher education for women in the United States to some extent.The development of women’s education in the early years of the founding of the United States occupies an important position in the history of American education,which is the beginning of the history of American women’s education.Through the study of women’s education in the early years of the People’s Republic of China,it is helpful to clarify the relationship between the early American society and women,restore the social background of the early United States,and understand the reality of the American society. |
