Ernest Miller Hemingway was a "on the road" writer who loved to travel and wrote in exotic Settings, including Spain. Many researchers have also noticed the significance of Hemingway's Spanish images. Most of these studies focus on Hemingway's relationship with bullfighting culture and explain how Hemingway shaped the country of bullfighting. Some scholars also pay attention to Hemingway's cognition of Spanish culture and extend it to religion, mythology and other fields.Despite the volume of previous research, there is still some room to improve. This paper will discuss the dynamic changes of Hemingway's thoughts by referring to the obscure works, such as The Dangerous Summer which had not been paid much attention in the academic circle before.on the other hand,it will start from the construction of Spain to deeply explore the Hemingway's thought. This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter starts from the background of Hemingway's life and analyzes why Hemingway liked to write about foreign cultures and marginal cities. It also discusses his opportunities with Spain.Hemingway's creation in this life is closely related to the Spanish culture. To study the image construction of Spain is to study the change of Hemingway's mentality.Second, because Hemingway loved Spain,it didn't mean that he accepted it.In fact,Hemingway always regarded Spain as the other. The second chapter regards three Hemingway's works as samples and explores the relationship between Hemingway's ideological change and his literary creation. In the 1920s,Hemingway tried to pursue the harmonious life which seems like childhood by constructing the Spain in The Sun Also Rises. In the 1930s,Hemingway's political attitude shifted and wrote a lot of works about the Spanish civil war, such as The Fifth Column and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Finally,in the 1960s,Hemingway realized the influence of age and materialism on his works, and tried to cover up his anxiety by constructing a youthful and pure Spain in The Dangerous Summer. The third chapter analyzes Spain as Hemingway's aesthetic object.Firstly,it analyzes the relation between Hemingway's works and Spain's bullfighting culture. It can explain how he constructed a country of bullfighting. The second part discusses the lack of women in the Hemingway's Spain. Finally,it will introduce the bullfighting spirit into the spirit of the tough guy and explain the relationship between these two factors. The fourth chapter summaries the whole work.To sum up,Hemingway did not accept Spain's culture. In fact,he loved Spanish's culture because it is similar to his own aesthetic conception. In addition,he found the part of his own minds and aesthetic concepts in the foreign countries.Because of this, the analysis of Hemingway's Spanish image is actually an exploration of Hemingway's self-construction.In the process of this construction, not only his strong spiritual strength, but also his weak side was shown. The real Hemingway was not a perfect American idol. His vulnerability does not diminish his charm, but enriches his image and presents the real Hemingway to the reader.
