With the development of science and technology and the continuous progress of art trend,easel painting has gradually separated from the mainstream.That kind of objective and rigorous realistic works seem to be shelved like "outdated" documents.However,the revival of figurative painting in the past three decades and the rise of a group of young artists in the world have made figurative painting re-occupy the art market,and easel painting has a Renaissance trend.The development of easel painting to the 20 th century,more reflected in the combination of graphic art.Documentary painting is one of the products of the combination of the two.In the era of "we media",the function and significance of documentary images have become unprecedented.images change people's lives and the way they know the world.The research direction of this paper is the inspiration of documentary images to easel painting.The documentary oil paintings of gerhardlich,Harvey coster,Eric fischer and liu xiaodong are respectively cited.The work style of the four painter for the combination of image and painting has a strong research,at the same time four painter can be used as two examples of two relative comparative analysis,such as face fisher and Mr.Liu's works have a lot of similarities,but because in different social environment and ideology,the spiritual kernel are completely different.The works of the four painters are rooted in their own time and cultural background and take the individual memories of the artists and social collective events as the subject matter of their creation.This paper explores the following two issues.A;How to choose and apply images and the significance of photography to figurative painting in the initial creation of four painters.2.By analyzing the creation background and cultural connotation of the documentary works of different painters,this paper explores the importance of the social attribute and context of the artists,and probes into the essence of the intersection of the two media.
