Photography has become one of the most important image production tools,providing image information for the society. When focus on some social problem, thesocial value of photography are shown. With the humanitarian care, photographerslet people see the image of unknown reality in the society, to promote social change.The power of photography plays a role in this process.Under the perspective ofdocumentary photography in China, the image of vulnerable groups is the researchobject. From1979to present, the research divided it into three phases. The firststage is the big background of the research, which from1979to1989; The secondstage from1989to1989is the key of the research, which is the development ofChinas documentary photography mature stage, the vulnerable groups during thisperiod were very concentrated, social influence is also very big; Third stage since2003, the vulnerable image appeared some new characteristics and new features,which indicates the development trend of the documentary photography in thefuture. Later in this paper, through the process of get involved-take photos-show-impact of the vulnerable group, this subject divided the power of image into threeparts: the origin, spread, effect, to do in-depth analysis. Social documentaryphotography shooting vulnerable group images, these images can bring aboutchange, and social impact, this paper mainly analyzes the role of social documentaryphotography in this process. Delve into this type of social documentary photography,revealing the reality of the society, to promote the role of social change, in-depthanalysis the influence of photography in the process. In the final analysis theproblems existing in the process, and analyze the disadvantaged group images, putforward relevant improvement strategies.
