uring the Chinese arts modernization process since the 20 th century,improvement strategy proposed by Xu Beihong has a great influence on Chinese art systematic creation and teaching.Although dating back to the time when Mr Xu was studying in France,we can find that the western art has been developed into modern art at that time.Meanwhile,students learning in France,like Lin Fengmian,were also choosing modernism.Using figure painting as clues,this study intends to compare Xu with Foujita,another artist studying in France from East Asia,including their experience,learning object,element absorption and their production.It wants to make a discussion about the challenges that Chinese art confronting at that time and the reason that Xu Beihong chose the classicism-based modernism.Moreover,this study aims at discussing about Oriental art different reaction and strategy when confronting with the pressure of modernization.
