In order to "relieve the burden of history",narrativist philosophy of history advance the study of history from the confirmation of the past to the research of historians.Since the classical era,history as an "inquiry" undertaking has distinguished itself from rhetoric and poetics by its authenticity.The Steely law is especially strong.For Ranke,history speaks for itself through historical writings,and the sole task of the historian is to gather as much information as possible.Collingwood's reenactment rebutted this illusion that historical materials always show signs of fracture and need the filling of historical imagination.As a result,a path has been opened for history to return to narrative discussion.Hayden White has seized this opportunity swiftly and advanced the cause.Structuralist literary criticism and the theory of four metaphors troping provided assistance for White's interpretation of the relationship between historical reality and historical narrative.To him,history is a poetics.Based on the research of historians in the 19 th century,White proposed that the historical narrative of historians was influenced by four modes of romance,tragedy,comedy and satire,as well as four modes of troping: metaphor,metonymy,synecdoche and irony.As a result,historical narrative mimics historical reality as a verbal structure.Anksmit offers another perspective: expressionism.In this context,historical narrative,as the manifestation of history,exists to some extent as the " aspect" of history.The reason lies in the fact that no matter whether historical reality is presented or expressed,the form is a metaphorical writing.For Jenkins,historical narrative is just a freely fictive of history.Thus,in the context of narrativist philosophy of history,a critical structure composed of a narrator,a reader and a textual surface which are composed of historical materials and writings.In this structure,historical materials do not exist as silent testimony,but as textual interpreters.And in the role of narrator,a recorder as a personal witness appears.This makes the structure dual-subjective,one is the textual surface of the narrative subject,and the other is the narrator as the subject of historical research.In addition,the identity of the reader was reactivated,and he changed from the role of "outside window" to the role of meaning builder,reactivating the openness of historical interpretation.
