Role-play is an activity that simulates real-life,in which the teacher sets the situation,and the students play the role to make appropriate responses.Role-play can transform the teaching content into dynamic activities,and students bystander into participants.Thus it can greatly improve students' learning interest and contribute to the formation of a positive classroom atmosphere.So,if put Role-play into use in primary English teaching,can it improve students' listening and speaking skills?Based on the role theory,communicative teaching method and output hypothesis,the study applys role-play into actual teaching,with the two parallel classes of grade four in a primary school in Shandong as the research object.In the study,the experimental class is applied with role-play mode,and the comparative class with normal mode.During the entire research process,pre-test,post-test,questionnaire and interview are adopted.The research questions are as follows:(1)How does role-play influence English listening and speaking ability of primary school students?(2)What is the difference role-play makes between students with different levels in terms of English listening and speaking ability?(3)What is the reason why role-play influence the English listening and speaking ability of primary school students?The result shows that role-play can promote the English listening and speaking of primary school students.The promotion of low-and middle-level school students is greater.Role-play promotes students' listening and speaking ability in the way of attracting students' attention,enticing students to invest more in learning,and paying more attention to details.The improvement in listening and speaking ability is showed in the way of formation of listening strategies,higher spoken fluency and accuracy,and more acceptance of English.At the same time,role-play also has its own disadvantages.Role-play helps improve students' English listening and speaking ability,which is very enlightening.Teachers should create more opportunities for students to role-play.At the same time,teachers should regulate and control timely to ensure an efficient,serious class.Finally,we should attach great importance to evaluation.
