A Study Of Immersion Teaching Method In Improving Primary School Students’ English Listening And Speaking Ability

Immersion teaching mode is a kind of teaching mode rising in recent years.It originated from the Canadian immersion teaching research in the1960 s.Now it usually refers to bilingual teaching in which a second language(English)is used as the language of instruction in the course of instruction.The biggest characteristic and advantage of the immersive teaching mode is that students are completely "immersed" in the English environment in class,and through gradual infiltration,the purpose of improving students’ comprehensive English discipline quality is achieved.After continuous exploration and improvement,immersion teaching mode is relatively perfect.Teachers also tend to choose this teaching mode for teaching,so as to promote the innovation of English education and the change of students’ thinking in English learning,and improve students’ English expression ability.Questionnaire survey and control-experiment teaching are carried out.This study designed a questionnaire containing 16 core questions from the five dimensions including students’ classroom participation,participation effect,participation mode,learning interest and personality.Through the analysis of survey data and interview results,it can be seen that the use of immersion teaching method have obvious advantages over traditional teaching;The immersion teaching method plays an obvious role in the cultivation of students’ listening and speaking ability,and a five-step application method of immersion teaching in teaching English listening and speaking is proposed:(1)Premise: creating interesting teaching scenes close to students’ cognitive level(2)Immersion: creating immersive situation of life to develop students’ second language(3)Guidance: improving students’ enthusiasm for English participation through game demonstration immersion teaching(4)Improvement: relying on information technology immersion teaching to improve students’ listening and speaking ability(5)Consolidation: building a lasting English learning atmosphere with the help of home-school cooperative immersion modeThe purpose is to enable teachers to flexibly use immersion teaching method to improve students’ listening and speaking ability,create almost a "zero distance" contact with English,let students immerse in the strong atmosphere of English learning from childhood,and make them more willing to actively learn English and actively approach English.Finally,students’ English learning ability in listening,speaking,reading and writing should be improved comprehensively.
