The source text is selected from Chapter 6 of Genre: An Introduction to History,Theory,Research and Pedagogy,which describes how scholars in Rhetorical Genre Study have extended the idea of genre as social and rhetorical action and explains key developments in genre study including concepts such as genre sets and systems,uptake,meta-genres,distributed cognition,genre chronotope,and activity systems.The application of genres provides guidance for genre pedagogy.The source text is an academic work and the text language is formal and standardized with strict wording and mostly using spilt structure and branches-trunk structure.Combining with the characteristics of the text,the author adopts the methods of changing sentence order and division to deal with the translation of the spilt structure;for the branches-trunk structure,the author applies linear translation,the inversion and repetition;according to the context,the author converts the components in the sentence,mainly adjusting the subject.Through studying this translation report and practice,we hope to provide certain reference for the translation of similar texts and contribute to promoting the research and development of the genre in China.
