It has been clearly pointed out in the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2017 Edition)that English courses at the stage of compulsory education undertake the task of cultivating students' thinking ability.At the same time,reading also reflects the requirements for students' thinking quality.The New English Curriculum Standard for General Senior High School(2017 Edition)mentions that English subject should develop students' key competencies and the development of thinking quality can improve students' ability to analyze and solve problems.Teachers should cultivate students' thinking ability in reading class.However,how to design an English reading class based on the current level of students to develop their reading ability and cultivate their thinking quality is still the focus of the English teachers.Based on Bloom's Cognitive Target System and Intelligence Theory Focusing on Thinking Structure,this study mainly uses action research to study 4 English teachers and 46 students in experimental middle school in J City,Shandong Province,aiming to explore an effective English reading class and improve the students' thinking quality through the action research.So this study plans to answer three questions:(1)What is the current situation of middle school students' thinking quality? What are the problems?(2)How to implement the thinking quality-oriented English reading teaching?(3)What is the effect of the thinking quality-oriented English reading teaching on the cultivation of middle school students' thinking ability?To answer the above questions,the researchers conducted two rounds of action research.First of all,in the preparation stage before action research,this research investigate the cultivation of teachers and students' thinking quality through interviews,questionnaires and middle school students reading test paper.Secondly,according to the results of the pretest survey,a logical,critical and creative English reading teaching cultivates students' thinking quality,which is designed from the aspects of teaching content,purpose,activities and steps to carry out the first round of action research.Finally,the second round of research is carried out by adding teaching activities to cultivate students' critical and creative thinking quality on the basis of the previous round of research.There are the main findings of this study after collecting and analyzing two rounds of action research data:(1)The students' thinking quality is weak,and the teachers lack the related training work to students' thinking.(2)Thinking quality-oriented teaching process is to activate background knowledge,conduct text analysis,dig deeper into text knowledge,strengthen post-reading exercises and post-class consolidation,and can be designed differently in the teaching activities in the pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading links according to the process student's thinking quality.(3)Thinking quality-oriented English reading teaching can improve the thinking quality and reading ability of middle school students,and the improvement effect is significant.The research proves that it is effective to cultivate students' thinking quality in English reading teaching.Although this study still has some shortcomings,it explores English reading teaching strategies and ways to cultivate middle school students' thinking quality,hoping to provide some references for education researchers.
